Rookie listing is most probable, and even then he might struggle, given that he doesn't possess standout pace.

I mean, look at last year - Danny Nicholls averaged 25 possessions a game at TAC Cup level, played in the Grand Finalist Dandenong Stingrays team, is fast, has excellent skills, and is only 175cm, and he didn't get drafted until the second round of the rookie draft.

Caruso, while very good at that level, is 6cms shorter than Nicholls, and not blessed with the same pace. Hopefully someone takes a punt on him, because he's too good not to get a shot, but it's possible that he misses out altogether.

I think you'd find most of the guys in the AFL under 175cm would probably be faster than Fort.

Agree that he is by no means slow, but he doesn't quite have the express pace of a Stephen Milne or Brent Harvey.

Probably more important than 100m-type pace is acclaration over the first 5-10m. Players rarely run more than that under pressure. I wouldn't have thought Fort was that quick - to get picked up at that size he would have to be Davey quick, not just average. Similarly his kicking is just average too.

Caruso's kicking is actually above average on left and right foot but does lack penetration- 45 metres is his limit. His kicking may be construed as average because a fair proportion of them are won in contest under extreme pressure. In terms of pace he is one of the quickest on a fast u/18 list. He is faster than Eddie Betts and James Ezard who were both small and got picked up. If he was played similarly to the way Betts was played at u/18 level it would allow him to showcase his goal sense. But the real issue is size and that is going to hurt his chances but it only takes one club to show some courage in picking him. I would suggest Fortunato needs to have a strong u/18 carnival to convince the recruiting community that he is a genuine AFL prospect.
