Won two Mourish Medals, yet due to his size doesn't appear on the radar of any AFL clubs. Could he get a chance late in the draft or in the rookie draft?

In underage sport it is amazing how often small kids win MOM, BOG and B&F trophies. I think that the old sympathy vote thing happens.

David Roden also won back-to-back Morrish medals and, while we all admire him, he has hardly been a raging success.

Small players have to have special talents to make it at AFL level.

I spoke to Fort about a week ago and no club had approached him. Im good mates with his brother Natale who plays for Coburg. They are both pist off that no club has approached. Fort is hoping for a rookie spot, which i think he deserves.

Ill have a guess and say Caruso will have to make his way to the AFL via an apprenticeship in the VFL. Wont be Rookied or Drafted.

Jeremy Clayton is twice the footballer and not in the AFL. Caruso might be a handy VFL player like Jimmy Allan, Sal Hussesin and the rest of the very long list of small, slow rovers who can't kick but can get 30 touches.

Well said,................Many players outa the TAC who have won medals, havent even looked like getting drafted because of their size and speed.

Players like

Jason McFarlane
Steven Hazelman etc etc etc

Clayton getting cut from the AFL had nothing to do with his footballing ability. Was all off field stuff.

FWIW - Caruso is too good of a player to be rookied. Hope we take him with a late pick at the ND.

We've had a good track record with midgets (Harvey, Rock, Bell to name a few) over the years.

We've had a good track record with midgets (Harvey, Rock, Bell to name a few) over the years.
Most of the North midgets were recruited during the Carey era. The Pagan's paddock strategy called for small, goal-kickers to run into the 50 with the flight of the ball. Abraham, Dhurkey, Nicholls, Allison all got chances they might not of elsehwhere.

The strategy basically gave North one free draft pick a year because other clubs were not nearly as intereseted in those little blokes.

Swans have a similar thing going on at the moment - they are the only club taking those 178cm - 82kg tackling inside midfielders. They'll get Leigh Adams or Craig Bird for 'free' this year.
