Forward Line

aslong as jack and mitch can take some presure off Astbury and Griffiths then they should go alright.
actually its supposed to work the other way around where the big blokes make it easier for players like morton.

i actually thought we kept polak to take some pressure of jack and one of the tall kids when they get a game.

Griffiths and even Astbury should play more AFL than VFL games this year. It's not like they are vying for a spot with our current full forward, Polak. Sheesh he makes O'Halphin look good as a key forward:o.

I agree with the two newbie smalls in the forward line but what we need more is consistent efforts over four quarters rather than "X" factor spurts which is what we are likely to get from them. A bonus from them I guess would allow Nahas to move a little further up the ground.

And yeah I hope Jack doesn't get the sooks in a few years when he has to work harder to get some pill:D

agree with this. i reckon both astbury and griffiths should play on a rotation basis. say astbury in for 4 or 5 games then griffiths. as each one struggles or tires swap tham around. one into the side one back to coburg.

this way we get 10 12 games into each without killing them and we actually get some height forward, thus better structure.

the other one im hoping we can fast track just a little is taylor that is assuming he shows enough.
at 189cm and a flanker he can play as a quick clever third tall allowing us to take one of the other talls of the field.because he is quick clever and plays more as a small it would make for a very versatile and in time skillful forward line with lots of size.

finally the little ive seen of griffiths i have to say i have not been impressed. with his height and size if things dont pan out for him as a forward he may be tried as a ruckman.

our tall forward options this yr are. riewoldt, polak, astbury, griffiths, with both post and gourdis being peggrd as defenders but both capable of playing forward.

the medium sized options are morton, taylor, hislop, with mids collins, cotchin, as possible rotations thru there.

the small options are. nason, nahas, roberts, with maybe one of gilligan or hicks if they earn promotion from the rookie list.

finally the little ive seen of griffiths i have to say i have not been impressed.
Geez man that's almost as stupid as the people who are saying he's in our best 22, no ones seen him anywhere near enough to make a call. Sorry for the harsh tone but it's a shocking call.

For the first time in many years we have mutliple options up forward. We should be excited.
Nahas Polak Morton
Reiwoldt Vickery/ Post Roberts/Taylor/Hislop
then
Nahas Astbury Morton
Reiwoldt Griffiths Roberts Taylor
Add to this Polo, King, Nason and Dea.
So don't get disheartened get excited.
As for finishing last, Ha I say to all, Ireckon that we are a chance to make the eight.
Beat Calrton (2) Melbourne (2) Sydney (1) Freo (1) Kangas (1) Essendon (1) Brisbane (1) Port (1) Adelaide (1) Hawks (1) Thats 12 wins a bit ambitious but pretty realistic we could still win other games as the better sides might have injuries or as I believe we might actually be alot better than expected.
Go tigers we never give in until the final siren goes.:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::rolleyes:

If we want to win a premiership it is our midfield that needs to improve. Naturally our backs and forwards also need to improve but we are getting carved up by opposition midfields supporting their backs and then going forward to kick easy goals. I have'nt played footy for 27 years but we won games with 16 or 17 players because we helped our backline and got free to kick goals or give them to our forwards. the key is we our us. We need to stop looking at the bookends and look at the cause. How do you score goals? By getting the ball into your forward line, How? through the midfield. How does a team score? By getting the ball into their forward line, for us, the problem has been the ease with which teams give the ball to there forwards.
Re the Geelong game, yeah Geelong had 55 players out but they only scored 2 goals in three quarters and then 5 in 10 minutes while our senior midfield was rested then they came back on and we kicked the last couple of goals.
Martin tough and great disposer, Nason able to knock both Maxwell and Lockyer off balance and could have kicked a goal. Foley played only several good games last year, Deledio's second half of the year was much much better than the first half. Cotchin is already 8 rounds ahead of where he was last year, Cousins can only get better. Tambling, Connors, Edwards Collins and Thomson have plenty of room to improve. Action Jackson ran out of puff in the second half of the year and he has insured me that he will be much more consistent this year. Tuck what will he produce?
Now tell me that these improvements won"t help our forward line, backline and our chances of winning games and therefore our chances of making the finals.

Can I answer. PLEASE.. PLEASE =D

Michael Still, Jake Carlisle, Jay Neagle, Paddy Ryder, Jason Laycock even

depth and options is the key

I would not count your chickens quite yet with Laycock or Neagle.

Ryder looks more at home in the middle than forward, IMO

better late than never.

sheesh what do you want me to say. based on the little i have seen of him i have not been impressed. i havent made a call on him all ive said is i have some concerns.i wont be making a definitve call on him or any player until ive seen enough of them play. even then i will give them 2 or 3 yrs to show why they got drafted.that is as long as they are not chronically deficient in many areas.
anyway nothing stupid about it at all. you can only call it as you see it. unlike many posters i dont rely on what everyone else is saying and i can tell you now there are areas of his game that are a concern to me.
most certainly i dont think he was best available at pick 19 i had 3 mids and two kps in front of him based on the little i had seen of the kids last yr.

one thing for sure we need to be patient with him not expect to much to quickly and for now trust in the decision the club made to take him at pick 19.
