Ok, I need one deperately. Just to cover my loss of Pav for at least the next 3 weeks....

Looking at the those about to change value (After 3 games & currently getting a run), I've come up with the following;

Jurrah - $144k

Vickery - $139k

Watts - $164k (Has played 3 weeks - Minus $12k)

Balantyne - $94k (One week)

Question is, Which will get the most games this year???

I know Ballantyne doesn't look great at this stage but you get the feeling he'll get a lot better.

At this stage you should be avoiding rookies, most of the decent cash cows have run their race. The only ones you should keep are the ones you have had from the start- I have had Ballentyne from teh start so I have kept him.

Shaun McKernan fron the Crows is a chance this week - he's $94K

In fact, its down to Sellar or McKernan to replace Brad Moran and Sellar is also a forward at $94K

Hmmm... Thanks for the heads up but two Rookies in a potential top 4 team??? That sounds to me a lot like two guys fighting for one spot (At best).

Essentially, what you want in a trade down now, is someone who will play out the remained of the year.

For mine, that's out of Ballentyne and Jurrah with both teams spending the rest of the year playing in their young.

If it's some extra cash you're looking for, I would definitely go with the Ball. He more than proved last year that he's up for it, but an unfortunate injury has seen him lose some touch.

Surely they have to run him out for the rest of the year to let him find some form/get some games under his belt...

Yeah it is

It will be one or the other to come in for Moran

But it's because the normal replacement, Jon Griffin, is injured for 2 weeks so the longer term job security is suspect

I wouldn't get either of them myself this week, I was just adding to the list of potential options

Fair enough.... :)

Im glad you started this thread mate, as there are no doubt a few in this position. I dont have pav but have a forward line that is battling and need to buy one of tje cheap forwards you mentioned as cover on the pine so i can upgrade one of my mediocre forwards to a gun.

So whos the best prospect as a bench player, making money with him is not the main concern and i hope i never have to use them on the field but i need to choose the player that is the most ready for AFL and will play the rest of the year....the cost isnt really an option either, but only a pine player so dont wana spend a great deal.

and in everyones opinion who will that be?
Jurrah $144K- showed some good signs and be perservered with?
Vickery $139K- Highly regarded, tigers going with youth?
Ballyntyne 94K- been unlucky, should get chance to show something?
Watts $164- not keen, copping too much attention key forward in shit team too hard to rack up points

appears as tho jurrah and vickery will get the game time and have been more impressive thus far but i dont know much

If I had to pick one, Ballentyne, as he is "AFL ready"- mature recruit so he should get more scores. I'd avoid Watts this year. Another option could be Michael Walters from Freo. Freo are beginning their tank and will play kids.

If Freo can't fit Walters even on an extended bench when they don't have Pavlich or Solomon, I don't think they will find room for him the rest of the year.

From reading the Adelaide forum, Sellar doesn't look likely to retain that spot but a lot of Adelaide fans are excited about the prospects of Shaun McKernan, who is pretty mobile and this week is actually named at HF instead of on the bench like Sellar.

I'm tossing up between Ballantyne and McKernan, however if you are mentioning Vickery at that price you should also mention Yarran who is $171k up $23k from his starting price with an avg of 47.3 and a BE of 15 however only on extended bench.

Another possible cheapie is Josh Smith from the Kangaroos - Mature aged forward played 3 games already, $158k however he is on extended bench and too tall with Hale, Petrie, Goldie etc in the team.

I'm still thinking Ballantyne because of the big wraps and haven't seen McKernan, however I was at the Pies vs Freo game and he had a shocker.

I was keeping an eye on him after my Pavlova collapsed and I only have Lockyer from my pies so I watched him go around and didn't like the look of him at all, except for one decent mark in the last quarter near the boundary wing.

Ok....

In the end selected Jurrah. Rationale;

  • BE of about 20 so he'll go up in value.
  • He's playing in a team that is rebuuilding and will give him a run this year.
  • Ballantyne's abysmal 9 on the weekend didn't inspire me and I can always get him next week. Though with a 9 already, if he doesn't have a good game this week, he may end up not going up at all.
  • Traded McGlynn for Jurrah. Made about $100k off the deal but I figure McGlynn is not going any higher and Jurrah will be a bench player anyway. Might as well cash in now.
  • I am going to take a zero this week with Pav, Goodwin and Macaffer on the bench but I should still comfortabley get over my opponents.

Tossing up between Ballantyne or Jurrah.

Ballantyne you would hope will play while Pav is out since there from the same team - plus he is cheaper than Jurrah I need all the spare change I can get for another trade.

However I think Jurrah has a better chance to play the year out - with my other forward rookie not getting games, Ballantyne may be too much of a risk.

Yeah exact same dilemma. I think I will take a risk and pick Jurrah.
