Walker has been providing great run out of the backline, which is excellent to see.

The thing that really grinds my gears with him is his complete inability to stick a tackle. I wish they had tackle completion stats like in rugby because i'm convinced he would have the worst completion rate in the team. Whether its his shoulders or whatever i don't know but he attempts many tackles and only sticks around 1.5 per game. Its really starting to become an issue as all too often missed tackles result in a free man. Heck, even our full back has a higher tackle rate.

I'll think you'll find its the shoulders. .. Like judd he cannot stick a tackle when stretched. .. He is fine if he can get his body behind it. .. Riewoldt is an opposition player that comes to mind that has similar issues. ..

Garlett tries his guts out every week, Betts and Yarran don't.
Yes......I;m sure you're right......after being nominated BOG by Ratts vs WCE, Garlett just tried his guts out vs North and Freo......didn't coast at all.....possibly the most consistent player at our club.

BTW, I don't have an expectation that he would be any better given his inexperience, more a comment on the lack of intelect behind the post.

FFS I hope we win this week just to see the quality in posting lift a little again.

Well there is beginning to be a pattern. Every time we lose there are loads of players in our forward line and a midfield with a lot of space to move and a very open backline. Are our players just slow learners of where to run and position and how to move the ball according to the situation ahead or are we not identifying this and have a tendancy to play a poor style of footy that works like Sex Panther Cologne. Why is it we are having problems dealing with this part of our game?

Perhaps it will take a fair bit longer to ingrain the right way to play into our players than expected but on the other hand they are professionals who work 7 days a week on this. I'm just not sure that our players are being instructed right. Because getting some of the simple things right like defencive positioning of the midfield and opening the game up to suit a tall forward wouldn't be that hard to get going. We got basic things wrong, basic positioning and structure wrong, this is what's really embarrasing. Surely this week against the Swans we will see an improved structure and the players in the right spot more of the time.

If i see the same old thing where our midfielders won't hang back and defend when we go forward and the small forwards blocking up the big guys space again this week then I will really start to lose faith. If i see an improved game plan and positioning, even if we lose, I'll regain my faith in the coaching at Carlton.

The age of our players does not give us an excuse for mucking up basic positioning. It's an excuse for poor decision making, inconsistancy, the odd mistake and physically and athletically struggling.

Surely we will improve this week.

David King and Sellers were interviewed on Fox. Also don't like the game plan, it's getting really obviously bad. Any how I am sure they can fix it.
