Knocking very loudly on the door though, as close to it as you could hope in 2018 and no signs of not contending again this year. I think not winning a premiership is not a failure, top 4 is a successful season, if we can hang around the mark for another 2-3-4 years from here and keep going late into September Bucks has done his job and coming home with the ultimate just relies on everything going right at the right time. Buckley to me has now bought himself 4 years to see what he can do with this generation. To get an injury struck list to the big dance and in front until pretty much the last kick was a significant accomplishment, and this year we have improved with better availability.
Yes, knocking, but not knocking down.
Sometimes the heartache of not closing the deal on the final day makes me want to be not knocking.
But then I think of what it must be like to be a Saints follower.....
I think we have the cattle to improve this year. Is that enough to take sweet sixteen? I don’t know.
I will warn though, the current Premiers have a fellow called Nic Nat who will return sometime this year.
And that will change the conversation.

*edit* I have an opposing view to you. We exist to win Premierships.
Everything else is failure.

Of course I want to win but I take close because it means you had a good year overall and a 1 in 18 chance is not good odds... if we can win one every 10 years we are doing extremely well. 45 grand finals or whatever it is is extraordinary but unfortunately we fall over on the final day too often, we should be miles in front on the flag tally. I'm just happy if we are a serious contender, that gets a pass from me and another go next year.

I’m old.
The heartache far outweighs the “close enough” arguments.
I want silverware.

So 2011, 2018 were complete failures to you, despite doing everything right except on the last day? Lol I couldn't live to be so unforgiving.. I'm just happy if the dream is alive. There's nothing worse than going through a whole season knowing you have no hope of winning it. I would've necked myself if I was a Carlton supporter by now but at least we're amongst it. We got one hand on it during the parade...

I'm old too, perhaps old enough to know that what I (or we) as supporters WANT is not important in the scheme of things. I go to the footy now for the same reasons as I did with my grandfather. I go to support the club I was brought up to love. Wins and Losses are part of the deal, but for me its about the family that is Collingwood. Silverware is nice, but just seeing that little chap chaired off the ground last week....his joy is what its all about.
Go the mighty Black and Whites.

There’s no denying anything in what you say.
Except for the silverware is nice comment. Not nice, essential.

I'm now picturing you as the irate parent yelling abuse from the sidelines. What do you mean you only won a silver medal?

Guys some of you are over analyzing - forward thinking in the process we have been through which leads to our present much rosier position and a desire not to return to muddled and over complex game plans,

In essence we got here through moving forward so lets keep doing that.

Victory goes those that believe in it - and themselves - the longest.
