Fourth Test team

Matty Wade again :)
this....But no one likes him on this board(suits Tassie if the selectors think the same as this board)

The guy is averaging 76 in FC this year(2018), with 650 odd runs. You would struggle to find someone better over this period. heck, that is more runs than Pukovski has scored in his List A/FC career so far yet that is good enough for some people.

I desperately want to say it's a terrible idea but he has a higher test batting average than M Marsh and a great record in recent FC cricket so he really should be in the conversation, at least.

I wonder if the selectors will ever start taking Chris Tremain seriously
Just came here to post the exact thing. Had wonderful seasons the last two and has started like a house on fire yet again. Definitely has to be in the squad as the fourth quick imo, but obviosuly wont get a game unless injuries or an unlikely event of selecting four quicks in one game.

We really should have no limited overs teams playing while the first few shield games are on. Need to get a real good reflection of where everyone is at.

I'm far from convinced but given the options he hasn't been a terrible choice for a couple of years.

His keeping was always the issue. He is fairly athletic in the field, maybe could field in the covers or somewhere. Normally, you would expect a "keeper" playing as a pure batsman to be at first slip but I still wouldn't trust him in a pure catching position. (Even though he is much better with the gloves, and probably a decent club level wicket-keeper now.)

The problem is that unless that it is an injury, you aint gonna see Tremain or Sayers.

Regarding Wade. If he makes runs, he should be in. He's doing everything right.

Jos fields in covers for England, so it shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not suggesting Tremain should be in the 11 if Hazlewood, Cummins and Start are fit, but he should be in the conversation. The fact he couldn't even make the UAE squad was strange.

He should without a doubt.

The commentators of Victoria's current Shield game wre hypothesising on the idea of Finch in the middle order. It raises the question of who bats at the top if this were to happen. Team could look something like this:

Renshaw
Burns/Harris (not a fan of picking off one innings but some seem to be. He's a solid citizen)
S.Marsh
Head
Finch
M.Marsh
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Hazelwood
Lyon

As much as it pains most people I believe the Marsh bro's are locks for the first Test at the very least. If Khawaja recovers in time he comes in at the expense of Head.

What do others think of Finch in the middle order?

You wouldn't be picking Harris off one innings, he's been in the top ten run scorers in shield cricket for both of the past two years. Having said that, averaged 42 in that time, which isn't great.

I'm going to wait and see for the next few weeks before making any judgement. Every contender is going to be playing a lot of cricket so let's see someone put a series of scores together.

1. Khawaja
2. Finch
3. S.Marsh
4. Maxwell
5. Head
6. M. Marsh
7. Paine
8. Cummins
9. Starc
10. Hazlewood
11. Lyon

Lousy team. The sooner Shaun Marsh is out the better but with the batting already lacking experience it’s not going to happen.

just made 80 today. Get out the chisel and put S.Marsh in the team. Absolute lock.

India are thanking the pie throwers for gifting the dud some runs.

Can't we move on from a 34 year old who is inconsistent AT BEST

If his brother is there that would be worse though but watch the gnome pick them both...needless to say the rest of the bats better get runs because these two won't.

Harris - Has surely earned an opportunity
Renshaw - Our best bet at long-term opening bat IMO
Khawaja - Our best batsman
Burns - Unfairly treated by selectors & has a better test record than most
Finch - Not confident he’ll play lots of tests, but he’s earned this chance after UAE
Head - Showed something in the UAE, I’d give him the summer to prove himself
Paine - Obviously
Cummins - If fit
Starc - As above
Lyon - Obvious
Hazelwood - If fit

I have no doubt that the Marsh brothers will play all summer, but this is the team I’d pick first off.

Langer just finished saying last week that all runs whether odi or t20 will count when selecting first test team. Maxwell scores 52 (generally not that much but considering our current circumstances) and I bet he gets overlooked. How M Marsh is in before him is staggering.

I'm not averse to bringing guys like Burns, Handscomb, Maxwell and even Wade back into the fold. The UAE squad just seemed like such a reactionary shift and I don't think guys like Head and Laubaschagne have done anything to push ahead of these guys. I'm not convinced about Renshaw's form, but he's a solid prospect, so I'd probably lean towards...

Renshaw
Finch
Khawaja
Maxwell
S.Marsh
M.Marsh

with Burns, Handscomb, Head and Wade the alternatives.

Spots 7-11 write themselves.
