Fourth Test team

Selectors rate Shield form, so SMarsh has runs on the board. And MMarsh and Renshaw aren't competing for the same spot.

I can cop SMarsh playing (just), but come off it what are we playing Mitch for? He can't bat, he doesn't bowl, and he's ordinary at best in the field. Reminds me of that song! Play 6 batsmen, yeah I know it's visionary. We don't have 5 elite batsmen, we can't go into a test with any less than 6 genuine bats. Marsh is barely a test number 8 let alone a 4!

bring in Doran? Silk?

Nope, would look at a few though- Ferguson, Harris, Dean, Renshaw, Hazelett, etc

No more Marsh failings please! Enough is enough!

If we’re picking blokes based on being “less shit than Mitch Marsh” then might as well pick state players out of a hat. Dean not up to international standard

Great to see George Bailey captain the PM X1 to a win over the South Africa today
51 NO as well ,
George is still the best capt in aussie , but took more than 1 for the team , because he was not born in NSW
as the media (NSW ) hounded him out of town
Tassie played in the last 3 domestic finals

Bailey making runs in 50 over cricket wasn't and never is the question. He was found out at test level and there is no point going back there. For the record he'd be in my ODI side easily.

Somehow suspect it's more to do with the fact that he averaged 26 with one fifty in a 5-0 series whitewash.

Have you ever made a post on this board without complaining about NSW bias?

My point George now 36, he only played 5 tests,( he tells the media put him under X pressure ) capt Aust T20,ODI If he had been given a reasonable time in test at 6, he would have grown with it.But he was seen as a serious threat to Clarke/Smith /Warner ,as captains. ask Mark waugh /Jim Maxwell Ben Horne and all the other NSW media .There would Not have been any ball tampering under his watch
Unfortunately NSW cricketers show inbreeding traits with all following the leader.
I feel sorry for the players as the NSW media put them up on pedestals , and they believe it( all NSW have baggy green in there kit bag ! )
Look at whats happening today , Mark Taylor is being pushed to take over from Peever

Peever should be sacked, you can't have someone who got promoted after the saga in the administration. Either they all go or none go. How he is in a position is an outright joke. Whoever takes over should be first and foremost a cricketer.

Bailey is a fantastic captain, but we can't be selecting a test side or players just for leadership, they need to be in the top 6 bats. Bailey is no worse than SMarsh but I'm not sure I'd go there, doubt I see the point. Paine is there for his leadership anyway.

Yes he is. Don't let your hate for Marsh cloud the fact that he's a better player. I like Geore but Marsh is comfortabkly a better batsman.

Which Marsh there is two of the spuds! SMarsh probably is a better bat although he’s as inconsistent as can be. Mitch is just awful

You sort of contradict yourself there but I agree with you on Bailey.

And they probably need to sack the idea of Mitch Marsh just because he's not bowling well anyway. His bowling was good enough to be an all rounder in tests, his problem was the runs. You'd rather a proper batsman at 6 now anyway (or 4 or wherever he batted in UAE). If we have an all rounder good enough then play them otherwise we need a proper bat.

I had hopes for Stoinis but probably not. Maxwell would seem to be the option as an all rounder, or even just as a bat but who the **** knows why he doesn't seem to be in with a chance.

Have some hopes for Jack Wildermth from Queensland but like a few he needs a season or two. I’d just rather pick 6 bats. Travis Head can bowl, Laubashgne can bowl. Both of those are in the mix. This obsession of needing an AR is weird.

my point with George was, if they carried his batting, say past 15 tests ,he would have got the swing of it and turned into a fine no 6
( he run into an angry Jimmy Anderson) . he could have mentored smith ,instead of Warner
Smith was hopeless when he first played, ( he admitted it , and got dropped a few times , but got resurrected , with Jimmy Maxwel help )
Mike clarke said he was terrible vice capt
steve Waugh had 50 tests before scoring century
Mitchell Marsh played 30 tests and ave 26
Pat Cummins remained on a full contact 5 yrs whilst he was injured ( he a good bowler, but he is not a great bowler )

An all rounder would be great but if we have one or two blokes who can be part time in the top order we should be ok. We did it for years in our heyday but Warne and McGrath could both be stock and strike bowlers which helped of course.

Yep you are correct. Look if there is an AR that is in your best 6-8 bats in the country by all means play him but Marsh is nowhere near that

Ideally we have a batting all rounder who can get picked in the top 6 and a bowling all rounder who can genuinely be picked as just a bowler, we’re a million miles from either though.

Have to pull you up on the bowling AR thing if you don't mind. Personally, Pat Cummins will develop into this. His batting is very good for a number 8. Have no problem with Head being the bowling AR in the top 6.

Yeah that's a fair call actually, Starc or even Pattinson could be that bowling all rounder. I see a bowling all rounder averaging over 30 with the bat and under 30 with the ball which they would all be capable of. I think a batting all rounder should be averaging about 30 or so with the ball and over 40 with the bat (I thought M Marsh would be capable of that but he can't get near that I don't reckon).
