Fourth Test team

Finch
Renshaw
Maxwell
Patterson
Head
Labuschagne
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

It's time to move on from SMarsh, too old, no future. Patterson has been a consistent performer and struggles in T20 (a good sign for a test cricketer)

Head and Marnus are worth sticking with for now.

Your best player usually plays at 3, Maxwell is the best batsman in this side. (How far the Australian test cricket team has fallen)

If Khawaja is fine then you replace Head or Marnus.

And if Hazlewood or Cummins are injured for the love of god give Tremain a run.
Patterson has about as much chance of being picked as what I do.

His atrocious record for starters.

You're right though he will definitely play due to lineage, being a good bloke and having the second best chest to pipes ratio in Australian cricket.

51 test innings at an average of 26, he has passed 50 3 times and 100 twice.
Not good enough. Has showed nothing since the flats decks in the ashes. Time to give another bloke a chance.

Harris scores one double century and he's automatically selected.

Harris doesn't even average 35 in first class cricket.

Think on that.

Why is every campaigner on this form so biased? We get it, you're from the state you were born in. It's not an achievement.

I'm a Queenslander. I want Tremain to play Test cricket. I want Maxwell back in the test team.

I'm not pushing for shitty Neser or inexperienced Doggett.

Most of you don't give a shit about the test team, you just want the people for YOUR state in the team. Time to grow up.
I want Harris and Im South Australian mate. Nothing to do with state bias, most people want the best player for the job to be completely honest with you

Harris had a pretty poor start to his career despite having the talent. Since moving states at the start of the 2016/17 season he has averaged 48.37.

He should be in the conversation due to that form over the last two and a bit years. His career average due to a poor start before that time really should not matter.

I believe only 3 spots in a 13 man squad are up for grabs. The back up seamer, the opening partner of Finch, and the reserve batsman in case Khawaja does not get up. I have Tremain, Harris and Lehmann in those spots respectively.

Labuschagne?

Labuschagne's Recent History
vs South Australia- 3 and 28
vs Pakistan- 25 and 43
vs Pakistan- 0 and 13
vs Pakistan A- 39*
vs India A- 0 and 0
vs India A- 60 and 37
vs Tasmania (Last season's Final)- 32 and 5*
Take out the 2 not outs, he has one fifty in his 11 last digs, including three ducks. Overall he averages 33 in FC cricket. Should never have been close to selection in the first place. Got picked and did okay. Was told spots up for grabs for the home summer. Went back and made scores of 3 and 28. In my rolling team this does not justify selection in any way. Nothing against him, if he goes out and gets a hundred and a few good scores hell find himself back in. If he doesnt he wont. Simple.

lol Why do people think that's a thing?

Root bats at 4, Kohli bats at 4, Smith bats at 4, Tendulkar batted at 4, de Villiers didn't bat 3, Kallis, Lara, Ross Taylor, Pietersen, Miandad, Younus Khan, and Greg Chappell.

The whole No. 3 is a silly thing.
The mythology of #3 seems to be a peculiarly Australian thing; handed down from Ian Chappell, and based on him Bradman and later on Ponting.

Ideally, for me, number three is the most versatile batsman but not necessarily the best. One who can see off the new ball when an opener gets out cheaply, can dig in to protect the middle order in difficult conditions, or take advantage of a good start with quick runs when the match is set that way.
We don't really have anyone suiting that, so I'd take the more reliable and steady option. We don't have those either, maybe Khawaja is as close as we've got.

I have a feeling it may be:

Harris
Finch
Head
Labuschagne
Wade
Marsh
Paine (c, +)
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

If I'm guessing what the lineup might look like and not using my opinion I'd say at this stage

Finch
Harris
Khawaja*
Marsh
Head
Marsh
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Hazelwood
Lyon

Still another shield game to go which could likely determine the line up. I think Renshaw has to make some runs in the next match to warrant a game though and at this stage I think Harris might be slightly ahead. Langer is a huge fan of Shaun Marsh and he made some decent shield runs. I don't think it matters what Mitch does, he just seems to get picked.

Entire test XI is impossible to pick because the depth in Australian cricket is a joke right now.

Harris
S.Marsh
Khawaja (only gun test batsmen)
Patterson (ave 40 FC)
Lehmann (ave 40 FC)
Maxwell (ave 40 FC)
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

Which Marsh do you have at 6?

I'd be very surprised if both aren't picked despite their poor test form. Langer is a fan.
Mitch

see above stats. Should'nt be anywhere near it

Neither should any batsman bar Khawaja really so why not persevere with a young bat? What’s the alternative gift wrapping more tests for the Marsh spuds?

Players who deserve it more other than those that are locks for the team:
Lehmann
Renshaw
Harris
Heazlett
Patterson
Maxwell
Burns
Weatherald

thats just off the top of my head, theres probably more

Arguably Will Pucovski as well

People keep talking like Renshaw should be a lock and that he has been hard done by. He has a Test average of 33, one hundred in 20 innings, and some suspect Shield form at the worst possible time. He has great potential, but non-selection would hardly qualify as a travesty.

It will be if Mitch Marsh is picked off his trash usual form!
