Fourth Test team

No one knows there is a 'good bloke' selection policy. It's just one of a number of unknowns being used to pot him after just a handful of Tests. Fact is, most of the blame should be heaped on CA, the selectors, Warner/Smith et al. Langer will have to wear the consequences, given he is now part of the selection panel, but for Christ's sake, a little time would be nice.

Well I’m sure it isn’t just langer but there is obviously issues outside of playing ability and form which is keeping all of Wade, Maxwell, Burns and Renshaw out.

It does seem a bit of a muddled mess at the moment. I hope Marnus proves me wrong but, I think any of the above 4 would improve our batting line up.

I agree with Jack I reckon CA are using a bit of influence with selections and the so called good bloke policy , still scared about the public outrage over the sledging and ball tampering saga they’re on a par with the WI cricket blard.

Only up to a point; if he's been told he can't pick Maxwell or Wade because CA thinks they are twats, he's hardly going to come out and say it in public. There is bound to be plenty of behind-the-scenes limitations on what he can say.

just come out and say it, and then everyone knows where they stand. CA has a poor record with justifying reasons for selection (and non-selection).

It'd be nice for us on the outside, but it's not really how the world operates. We've all had occasions where we've had to hold our tongue in the workplace, I'm sure. The management theory is you bag people in person, but hold back in public. One would hope Maxwell and Wade actually know where they stand, even if we don't.

Listening to Maxwell talk after he was told they He didn't have to play in the Australian A tour before not being selecting in the Pakistan tour, it's very obvious he had zero idea where he stood at that time.

I hope he's been told the truth since but I'd be surprised.

I may be mistaken but i thought Wade said recently a selector has not spoken to him since being dropped didn't he?

Trevor Hohns is a corrupt prick.
I did some research today and noticed that he played 7 Test matches for Australia in total.
In all of those 7, Geoff Marsh was on the same team. All 7. His entire test career!
No wonder he feels such affection and fondness for Geoff.

Here is the link so you can see for yourselves:

Trevor Hohns Test Career Stats

Now 30 years later, it seems Trevor is still 'loyal' to his 'mate' Geoff and his sons Shaun and Mitchell.

Absolute clear and obvious nepotism. Plain as day.

That’s rather stupid tin foil hat stuff.

Point remains the selections are rather bizarre and non sensical. I mean if you have lots of guys performing and you prefer one over the other for whatever reason I understand, but to completely ignore the best performed players for just picking good blokes, that just seems like a recipe for bias in selection.

Maxwell was treated horrendously with regards to the Aus A tour

On a similar note, didn't Faulkner get told to turn down a county contract as CA had big plans for him in the national side, then promptly cancelled his central contract for the season? Yeah the guy cricket went backwards pretty rapidly, but still struck me as a massive dick move.

Also remember Chadd Sayers was left out of the loop when he was rotated out of the setup. Selector/player communication seems to be shocking from CA's end.
Australian selector Trevor Hohns insists overlooked seamer Chadd Sayers was not owed a telephone call over his non-selection for the South African Test series.

...

Sayers revealed in a live radio interview shortly after the squad announcement last week he was seeking clarity from Hohns over his omission, and admitted he was frustrated he had not received a telephone call before the squad was named.

But Hohns said if he had his time over, he still would not have contacted the Sheffield Shield's leading wicket-taker over the past 18 months, given he was not a part of the Ashes squad for the final three Tests.

Preffered test XI for Sri Lanka,

1. Marcus Harris
2. Joe Burns
3. Usman Khawaja
4. Shaun Marsh
5. Matthew Wade
6. Glen Maxwell
7. Tim Paine
8. Pat Cummins
9. Mitchell Starc
10. Nathan Lyon
11. Josh Hazlewood

12th Mitch Marsh

Out: Handscomb, Head, Labuschange In: Burns, Wade, Maxwell.

Then transition to XI for the Ashes

1. Marcus Harris/Joe Burns
2. David Warner
3. Usman Khawaja
4. Steve Smith
5. Shaun Marsh/Mathew Wade
6. Glen Maxwell/Mitch Marsh
7. Tim Paine
8. Pat Cummins
9. Mitchell Starc
10. Nathan Lyon
11. Josh Hazlewood
Why is Mitchell Marsh even considered? How can you honestly name a guy in your preferred side who averages below 10 in his last 14 test matches?

Mitch Marsh should never play for Australia again. If Marsh wasn’t his surname he’d probably struggle to play for WA regularly. How on earth people posting here can even consider him at the expense of Patterson, Wade, Maxwell is diabolically stupid.

Dirk Nannes summed this up really well on Grandstand the other day, the national team is not a development squad, it's the final XI and should represent your best players irrespective of age. This constant 'youth' and 'potential' word has wormed it's way into the psyche of not just punters, but also selectors and coaches. Just pick the best team.

Sri Lanka & England Starting XI

Harris
Burns
Khawaja
Wade (Smith when available)
Patterson
Labuschagne (if he performs well in his second knock in Sydney) / Head (whoever performs better)
Paine
Cummins
Lyon
Starc
Hazelwood

Squad extends to - Renshaw, Wade, Labuschagne (or Head), Sayers, Maxwell, C White

Absolutely must make changes for Sri Lanka. This regime of selection and refusal to change it looks like it will take us to a 3-1 loss at home in a test series. Wade and Burns should come into the middle order or open with Burns and have Wade in the middle order.

Agree. Head’s dismissal just now shows he is way off the mark. Kurtis Patterson has to be considered, also Cameron White.

How does Shaun Marsh keep on getting selected ? Honestly it's time for Australia to say I'm sorry but your home is playing State level..
And no doubt he will make a 100 in his 2nd innings or make a good score in the ODI and the selectors will love him once again..
Does my head in.

Ricky Ponting, clearly frustrated today. ‘Every player has thrown their wicket away’. It’s absolutely true. Khawaja, Marsh, Head, Harris. I’ll excuse Labuschagne as I think he was stiff. We just aren’t up to it.

He definitely should have had the courtesy to tell him that they don't rate shortarses that bowl military medium at Test level.

Congrats to my Team Indian Team mates in advance, if it wasn't for my kid i would have scored a double ton in the first day itself against this attack

Congratulations, you have managed to pick a worse side than the current selectors.

What’s seriously pissing me off about not just the current team but people posting here is that they don’t have the courage to put the axe permanently through the underperforming Marsh brothers, and start picking based off performance.

What has Kurtis Patterson done wrong? Nothing. What has Glenn Maxwell done wrong? Nothing. What has Wade done wrong? Nothing. So are Burns & Renshaw just shelved now? We are throwing the towel in? The Finch selection was left field.
