Foxtel and The AFL............

Today i got my Foxtel guide and it said that FOX SPORTS will have 3 games a week live, the rest delayed, plus delayed coverage of the finals,GF, draft and brownlow startin from 2002.

So is foxtel defently gettin the footy, or can they still loose it to C7 if seven matches the consordium bid???

QT, the AFL has already awarded the Pay TV rights to Foxtel for season 2002 and beyond. Channell Seven only have the option on free to air coverage which the deadline is this Friday. Only way for C7 to get it is if they go to court claiming they should have been able to match the bid or if Foxtel provides them with some coverage. Cheers

Looks like my hopes of a decent weekly Highlights package (you know, like every other sport in the universe has already)will be a pipedream unless the free and pay parts get access to each other's games

Don't worry about that one Pessimistic

After 2004 when these anti-siphoning regulations lapse, a weekly highlights package will probably be the ONLY footy you will see on Free-to-Air.

... and this will be the case regardless of who wins these braodcast rights.

Migration of big time sport to pay TV is a commercial fact of life, and much as it pains and disappoints me to say it but I think we all just better get used to it.

Of course you can always go and watch the game live ...

Does this mean a person with Foxtel can watch every match live?? Or are a couple of the 5 free to air matches delayed?? I was just wondering because in Adelaide, Crow home games are on delayed and away matches live and I was hoping that as of 2001 every Crows game will be live into Adelaide. Thanks.
