I sure has hell hope they show most of the games from the (most likely) Boston V Cleveland series in rnd 2 ... Now apart from my own bias, surely that would be the most interesting match-up for even neutral fans in the playoffs ...

With the next series likely to be Lakers-Jazz, Spurs-Hornets and Pistons-Orlando as well I'm not seeing a game I wouldnt want to see. :thumbsu:

WTF, since when was chief derogatory and macho? Weird man, weird, no one has ever taken offense of being called Chief I've known, EVER. I call everyone Chief, and wouldn't being Chief mean you're better than me??

What was wrong with my post that you had to get up on your high horse? I was only talking from the history of what ESPN have shown, stated that all games they show wouldnt start at 10:30 so its subject to change and noted the dominance of west games last year.

Couldn't just have referred me to that email without being a w***er about it?

It is definitely an offensive term, designed to be arrogant/dismissive - but the fact you didn't know this means you're either a complete sheep who just says whatever anyone else does, or people have been calling you champ/muscles/tiger etc. for years and you simply didn't realise they were taking the piss out of you.

Either way, it ain't good.

____ off, if I want to tell people something offensive I'll straight out call them a w***er or a tosser. What's the point of trying to camouflage it to try and be smart?

There is no time I've ever had anyone get angry at me for calling them champ or chief when I dont know their name, even people I dont know when I'm out drinking or whatever. EVER!

And going by Borgsta, I'm not the only one.

lol you're using Borgsta, a moderator on an online forum, as a reference point?

Kudos to you my good man. Kudos.

Oh btw, I've reported you to Borgsta for swearing at me. Naughty.

No I'm using the fact that there are 4 people in this thread with an opinion about it and it's 2-2 as to whether it's offensive or not, since I;ve never heard it be offensive in the way I used it I don't have any "reference point" except my own opinion and I'm not taking yours.

Reported me for that? Tosser. :)

There's a whole other thread on it as well.

Keep calling people champ and tiger and I guarantee it's only a matter of time before someone decks you for it.

I've reported you for calling me a tosser as well.

TNT has the Western Conference Playoff TV Rights in America. ESPN/ABC has the Eastern Conference Playoff TV rights in America.

Fox Sports (Aus) showed the regular season TNT matchups, but I guess they didn't want (couldn't get?) the Playoff rights.

So does that mean we don't get any more Western Playoff games? Or just the Western Conference Finals?

I think it really depends on the situation but generally I reckon champ, chief are considered disrespectful. It's ok between mates IMO, but you wouldn't hear an employee calling their manager or boss 'champ', unless they were good mates, its like talking down to someone (IMHO). Most people would get pretty offended, if a teenager calls a senior citizen 'champ' I would say 9 times outta 10 the bloke's gonna get pretty fired up.

Why the hell would you call someone tiger?

Considering I've done it for years and guarantee I say "How's it going Champ/Chief" in pubs and clubs to someone just in passing every time I go I'll go right ahead and form my own opinion on it thanks I'll call bullshit on you saying "it is definitely an offensive term" in that atmosphere and culture, maybe that's where I've gone wrong, doing it on a public forum where someone has a different background and can take it the wrong way.

Yeah fair enough but that's the usual, I wouldnt call my boss or a senior citizen champ as I see it as a casual term to be used in a casual atmosphere. In that environment where I choose to use it, it's all good, never had any repercussions or any signs of such. I now see BF isnt one of those casual atmospheres.

chief is usually used to denigrate someone you dont know, eg:"settle down chief"

but when used between mates it is accepted as not being an insult.

Yeah that's probably a fair comment. If a mate called me Chief I woudlnt' be too fussed.

Yeah as I said it probally depends on the situation. If a mate of a mate introduced himself at a pub or club or just generally out, and said hows it going champ, I wouldn't consider that offensive, I would actually probally think that he's a good bloke and have a chat, but if a 16 year old kid called me champ I would have a word.

Generally with my mates if we use it's simply for laugh, ie. talking down to them on purpose as a joke. A couple of people I know use these words without meaning it but they wouldn't go calling some random in club/pub chief or champ. Not a chance.

It depends on the tone etc and how he speaks to you after that but for me there would definately be a chance that I'd think 'arrogant' in that situation.

Is this just to random people?
Because I guarantee that at least 50% would have wanted to smack you one if so.

To an extent, when I go to get a drink or whatever at a pub, most of the time I'll know them very distantly, rarely not at all and they just have something I can relate too. Normally some kind of indication of their football team, either local or AFL I know they're affiliated to. Just have a chat while waiting to be served usually using chief in the opening greeting. Never got attacked or given the evil eye, mostly get a decent convo while waiting to be served. :thumbsu: .

And by the way the quote dukes used that you said "definately be a chance that I'd think 'arrogant' in that situation," I absolutely wouldnt blink an eye-lid at it or think anything of the sort unless his body language or attitude was bad.

I think it all comes down to that word. Culture.

This has certainly been an eye-opener.

Lol I dunno, It's just I assume you live in Melbourne suburbs(as a large majority do on here)?

So you have thousands of people who are probably PC crazy, influencing the millions and judging from last time I was in Melbourne, you have to be careful about anything you say, which makes you very sensitive(There is a better word, but I cant think of it, conciencious(?)) to what people say to you eventually I would think.

I live in a town of 12000 and go out in a city of about 20000 so the culture is pretty laid back. Call a spade a spade, those type of nicknames never raise eyebrows, like it has on here.

I cant think of any other reason for such a gap in our standards here.

I'm just trying to find a reason why this is
