foxtel has one the rights for fugby league from optus[c7].
now considering that chnl.7 has mentioned that they had a backup plan if they lost the afl rights and bid for the fugby was part if that plan can we come to the conclusion that with foxtels win they have more or less given the afl rights to ch.7?
i cant see the federal government let alone ch7 see more or less one company [packer] owning the rights to all the major codes in the country.
ch.7 has a hell of a lot too lose more than ch.9 if they lose the rights for afl.
cheers!

tiger_of_old,

You "forgot" to mention that the rights that Foxtel won for rugby league are pay tv rights only and not the free to air rights.

So channel 7 could still get the free to air rights for rugby league.

No channel 9 have a contract for 2 games a week, and the rest goto FOX

The FTA stay with 9

C7 is gone

yes i relise that same old but the point is 2 yrs down the track i doubt very much ch7 would be in a position of gaining the rights to the fugby.the point im trying to make here is more to the point ch7 can not afford to lose the afl at whatever cost fair enuff some poeple out there hope ch9 get the rights but lets be realalistic here c9 to get the afl would be like ch7 getting the fugby in both cases it would be like an egyptian on the snowfields.
and while the fugby free to air is up for grabs in 2yrs theres always the chance of ch9 still keeping them.
as my mom u se to say better the devil you know

tiger_of_old,

I can see what you are saying, however, it would not be "the end of the world" if channel seven lost the AFL rights.

They could put all that capital that they would "save" from the footy and put into producing television shows and mini-series.

While channel 9 have rugby league and cricket most of their rating's come from tv shows and the like.

To further this point, channel 9 has something like 12 or 13 shows rated in the top 20.
