FOXTEL

The move was seen as an attempt to combat US giant Netflix, which has been rumoured to be looking to launch in Australia.

Netflix has a market capitalisation of around $26 billion and has more than 44 million subscribers worldwide. It charges US members $US7.99 per month.

Hope that's true. Foxtel won't be getting any of my $$ but I'd definitely support Netflix in Aus.

So i have foxtel basics and footy channel for $50 for 6months, when it ends all i really watch are premier league and fox footy. Whats a better alternative then foxtel bumping the price upto $75 at the end of the contract?

Are you able to just renegotiate the $50 for another 6 months?

Had Foxtel for I think 4, nearly 5 years now. Was thinking of trying to get a free upgrade to HD.

Should I go the whole loyal customer route or that I am no longer am happy to cancel the picture quality and want to cancel my subscription?

I will be moving soon, have had Foxtel since 2000. Watch these chumps try to charge me an arm and a leg to move it. Will be getting put through to the good ol 'customer loyalty department' to cancel it I am sure.

Have moved 3-4 times since i had it first installed, never once paid the moving fee which i think is $200+.
Had some lengthy arguments over it though.

Who do they think they are kidding charging you to move when the price of installation for new customers is either cheap, or sometimes free?

Pretty much my argument.

I always say well u can stick it, i'll cancel and then convert my Foxtel to 'Foxtel by Telstra".

Any tips chaps?

I rang them late last year and said I was only watching foxtel for the AFL and could source it elsewhere in HD, and wasn't wiling to pay the coin.

Immediate upgraded to hd, no cost install and 1/2 price for 6 months, it was too easy.

HD is too expensive to pay full price all the time, though.

Tell them your cancelling. They will ask Q's about your views on their shit product.

They will go to the computer to figure out cancellation.

Wait.

They will come back with an offer.

Um and ah until something is offered that you want.

My humble suggestion is to wait 6 weeks until the Premier League is over in case they call your bluff...unless you're happy to end the season now...no troll intended.
I was just gonna hang up if they called it haha

I've had foxtel for about two years now and we really like it.
We have the IQ and HD and my mrs likes the doco channels and music, my 3yr old loves disney junior.
I got it initially for Fox Footy but i get alot of use of it always seem to find interesting docos to record and watch.
Series linked all the early seasons of Curb Your Enthusiasm and watched last few seasons of Justifed and Walking Dead on FX.
It's good to have sky racing at home as well.

I know alot of people download but sometimes i don't feel like finding decent torrents and huddling around a computer to watch something.

It's actually pretty easy to watch downloaded torrents on the TV. Some, particularly the Panasonics and samsungs you can literally plug the USB into the TV and it will be able to play it via its inbuilt media player, not all file types though. I never watch anything on the laptop.

Or buy a media player for $50. I don't think many people who d/l torrents watch the shows on computer screens. Live sport and helping support rupert are the only real reasons for foxtel

Yeah i knew that my Samsung LCD and Sony Bravia support usb, however as you said it's touch and go as to which files will work.
I like downloading as well just saying that i've been getting use out of my foxtel, without the IQ it would be pretty useless though.
