I think im committed to using free hit in round 2. Mainly to maximise Arsenal assets as they have Leeds and currently i have no Arsenal players in my squad. Also, i can plan my defence around good fixtures in rounds 1,3,4 & onwards and poor fixtures in round 2. For instance, im going to start Van de Ven or Udogie and apart from round 2 when they have City, they have a very favourable schedule.

What do we think? Managed to get Haaland, Salah and Palmer into a team.

I like it. Probably because ive also done a Salah, Haaland & Palmer draft. You've invested slightly more heavily in defence and attack whereas ive gone for a gun midfield and have not spent much on defence at all. My highest priced defender is only 5M.

Do we think that going cheap in defence this year will be risky, due to defenders getting better points with the new scoring system? or will it mean cheaper defenders has more of a chance of scoring good points?

Love to know everyone's thoughts on Defenders this year, with the new scoring system.

Lots of people making a big fuss about defcon points but I think I’m going to mostly ignore it. I’ll use it as a decider if I can’t split 2 players.
The vast majority of points are still coming from clean sheets and attacking returns.
…but I’m horrible at adapting to change so why should FPL be any different.

If you have a defender that you’ll play every week then I think it’s more of a consideration but I can see plenty of defcon points getting benched by people rotating 4.5/5.0 type players.

If a trend emerges early then adjust (wildcard) if you are way off the scent.
I think the Centre Backs are more likely to get the defcon points if the team high presses.
And Teams that use low blocks it might be the Defensive mids that get the points?
in short I have NFI... Just trying to keep up with all the squad changes is challenge enough...
Have a good season all.

I really want a City attacker for their early fixtures but there’s only one that’s nailed on for minutes.
I can’t fit him and Salah into a team I like so I’ve been playing around with No Salah drafts.
they look pretty good but going against the best FPL asset ever with 57% ownership is a scary prospect.

It’s either that or I gamble on Marmoosh…or I just give up on the idea.

who the defenders are isn't important. the price points will stay the same but the names may change.
I'm warming to Joao Pedro now that it looks like Jackson is leaving but I'm far from sold on him.

my new bench boost strategy (which is unlikely to change) is to completely ignore the bench boost. if it means I end up using it GW19 with only one extra player then so be it.

What did you make of my team?

Phil Foden not getting much love. 230 points in 2023/24 but only 105 last season. Surely City will have a much better season and Phil get back to form. Or maybe Cunha also at 8m is a better option?

Will get Dubravka, and sweating on Rogers.

33 starts vs 20 last year.
Will he be more 23-24 or 24-25?

General Stuff
It looks like you'll have to play at least 4 defenders every week or start all of Beto, Xhaka and Adama in attack. I'm not a fan of either although starting more than 3 defenders is better than it used to be now that defcon is a thing.

Defence
Looks strong, maybe too strong given the money you've spent on 3 premium attackers. My only doubts are is Timber nailed or will he share games/minutes with White? You'd know much more about Arsenal than me though. Also despite their defence being elite the fixutres aren't great.
The other thing is I probably wouldn't spend 5.5 on a Spurs defender. Sure he's attacking but clean sheets are still the main source of points for defenders and I can't see Spurs getting many...or scoring goals for that matter.

Midfield
Adama is a problem. he's been linked with a move away and probably isn't first choice anyway. Harry Wilson has been playing in his spot in pre-season and is banging in goals.
Ramsey I know nothing about. I'm guessing it's just a dead spot but i could be wrong. The rest looks ok

Forwards
Beto is the problem here. Moyes came out and said he was disappointed with him after their last game and they've signed another #9 so he could find himself sharing minutes or benched very soon.

I'd take one of the 5.5 defenders down to a 4.0 and turn Beto into Guiu. That gives you 2.5 to spend in midfield and you'll still have 4 decent defenders to choose from each week.
with that 2.5 you can afford to turn Ramsey into Rogers (if fit) or Semenyo or there's a few decent 6.5 options and you'll have 0.5 in the kitty to spend where you see fit. And I'd swap Adama out for someone else.
Those are my thoughts. Other people will have different opinions. One thing is for certain though, its tough to make a team when you spend 39 million on 3 players.

...also Dubravka looks like he'll be a playing 4.0 keeper.
