The French are really starting to get their act together, with new teams forming in 2005.

The EU Cup will be held in Paris in September so it looks like being a great year for Aussie Rules in France.

For sure, we'd like to have posts from Australian footy fans. Don't hesitate!
This year is an important year for footy in France. We'd like to organise the EU Cup in Septemeber and we hope there will be new teams in the country.
Strasbourg should join the german championship to practise and to get experience.
Maybe we will organise the first National Cup with all the french teams.

Hey marc,

here in Barcelona we look forward playing against you and your team soon (I think it's gonna be in April). We will son begin our pre-season training sessions for our catalan league, and it wil also be useful to prepare for that "international" friendly game.

As we've had no news from Pere Moliner for a long time, we thought this match wold be cancelled. I'm not sure yet if our team can go there for April.
Sorry.

Wow I never knew aussie rules was this popular around Europe...

The 12th March there should be a match between a french selection and a british selection in Perpignan.
The 25th of March, the Strasbourg Kangaroos will face the North London Lions for an exhibition game.
And in September, the EU Cup should take place in Paris.

So 2006 will be an exciting year for the devlopement of Aussie rules in France.

There was a match between a french selection and an english team in Perpignan on last saturday. The english selection won by 75 to 66.
It was a great success for the development of footy in France because there was a lot of crowd (about 500 persons) and a lot of hopes.
A special thanks to Guillaume Ellin who organised this weekend and to Philip Porublev who came from Sweden to train the french selection and to umpire the game.

I can't take any credit for umpiring but I will say that Joao Coehlo from the Reading Kangaroos did a superb job under tricky "language" conditions. Thanks Joao for stepping up in the last minute to umpire.

Great weekend for footy in the region and congrats to all involved!

No guarantees for 2008. Depends on their own goals. Look at AFLG basically saying they are not interested in Internationals. And there may also be some others influencing teams not to attend.

The French guys are considering the merits for IC2008. I think the upcoming EU Cup result will have a big influence in the decision.

Of the 500+ (more like 700) people who came (and quite a few media and local VIPs), I would hazard a guess some 80% were €5 paying customers. Not only does that cover costs but it also gives local footy a big kick.

The French Connections is a possible name.
