I looked into a Pizza Franchise 600k makes 100k not a great return but run by 16 year olds, so virtually executive manage.
Another well known one wanted 350 to make 65
Also required a compulsary 250 G refit within 2 years.
I would rather start my own
More work but better return

I was a "Jim" a few years back, I won't say which franchise but it wasn't mowing. I did it a for a year but sold the business when I realised there were easier ways to make money and reach my goals. Plus I wasn't totally keen on the company culture; everything seemed to be "economical" and lacked a bit of class, especially as my expertise is more professional than say cutting grass or cleaning windows.

I too wanted to start my business and thought franchising was the way, but having gone through it, my experience would be to go it alone. There is unlimited freedom to do things how you want them to be done and not have to conform to systems, uniforms and processes that you might not agree with. Plus you don't have to pay recurring franchise fees.

On the other hand, my cousin owns 3 fitness franchises and has been quite successful. She would not have been as successful if she had to build the businesses herself. She owes a lot of her success to the franchise brand itself.

Has anyone on bigfooty operate a franchise. Was looking into getting one in the next few years as i having a desire to work for myself.

What scale are we talking, Jim's Mowing or McDonalds?

The biggest selling point for a franchise is, of course, it's branding. Generally the distribution systems are already set up as well, which makes sourcing stock and what have you much more easier. Depending on what franchise you were looking at, economies of scale often play a big part on your bottom line, and that is not just in the sourcing of stock. Training as well, depending on the franchiser, they do offer a lot of support in that regard.

It really depends on what industry, and what franchiser, and what the return is on that investment is. You could buy a Pizza Hut franchise tomorrow, but using that same money could start your own business or buy somebody else out who already has existing clientele. The freedom to do your own thing is a trade off compared to the brand recognition that you are buying into.

Dog grooming franchise was my line of though

In this economy people will start washing their own dogs.
The franchised "Jims Dog wash" brand recognition isnt that great that if you started your own you couldnt out perform with greater returns.
It is a one man show so your sweat equals your money
Not like 10 15 year olds flipping burgers for you at $3 an hour
