Turn it up pal..

tbh mate I'm happy to give Evans a run and will back him in as a player

Just calling out how odd it is for you (a hawthorn fan???) to jump on THIS thread of all threads to make a stand about the morals of an oppo fanbase
Hahaha
Francis is a family friend, so I'm invested.
All the negative expectations here... Thought I'd balance it out. All in good fun, no ninja moves here. Fwiw, Francis doesn't venture onto this site.

Tbh, I'd probably have a little trepidation about a similar scenario happening at the Hawks, but in this case, I know the player. Nothing wrong with showing support.

If the club decides on bringing in a player, you'd back them, at least until proven otherwise. Club staff know more than us.

Good luck to Francis and you blokes, hopefully he cements a place in the 22, and smashes it.

"Most of you lot" is a ridiculous generalisation. Most Port supporters would be wishing Frank all the best every time he pulls on a Port guernsey.

Attributing the thoughts of a few negative nancies to the majority of the supporter base is absurd.
No buddy, I didn't mean all Port supporters, the 'most of you lot' was a reference to those that posted on this thread only. If you go back to the start of this thread, you will notice the greater majority of comments are negative.

Apologies if I offended you, but I didn't target it at the ones like you.

There is a weird dichotomy at play here. There are a lot of complaints that we hang onto short players too long at Port.

And yet, when we finally start to cycle through them in an effort to uncover a Papley style gem (see T Burgoyne, J Schofield, B Woodcock all cut at least 2 years earlier than they would have been a few years ago) we get the opposite complaint of trialling the wrong ones!

Can't win sometimes.

The problem is that we re sifting through a bag of shit for gold bars.

There's a world of difference between bringing in a kozzy pickett/cyril rioli type small compared to a mcentee/evans

I didn't take it personally, I'm just sure all Port supporters want him to do well. I certainly hope he does.

I've only seen a few highlights but he has a good skillset, strong, has some X factor, nice kick and goal sense.

I think Geelong have proven to be good judges over the years, they wouldn't have used pick 41 on him lightly. But the squeeze on for small forward positions at Geelong saw him off.

The reality is when you sift through DFA's you are generally looking at guys that haven't made it for whatever reason.

The club obviously think he has attributes to fill a role in their eyes & us 'negative nancies' will support him too.

Most of you lot are certainly living up to the reputation that Port supporters are worse than Collingwood supporters.

You'd think that bad club supporters refers to being one-eyed, but most of you guys are like 'reverse one-eyed'... as in having a go at your own player.
Hawthorn supporter preaching about morals, why don't you contact your club and ask them what the **** has been going on down there in the last few years instead of spouting your meaningless diarrhoea on another clubs forum you arrogant twat.

but then you followed it up with the “reputation that Port supporters are worse than Collingwood”.

Did you mean only those that post in this thread as well?

Also I think it would’ve been beneficial that you know the Evans family up front rather than waiting for as long as you did to reveal that fact.

We could've had Stengle for peanuts though.. where does that sit on the hindsight meter?

I must admit I thought his drug issue was the red card because of Koch mouthing off in that regard previously.. then we go after Rioli.

Geelong go and get Stengle because they don't rate Evans & others.. the Le Fevre High boy plays in a flag & we end up with McEntee & Evans lol

BigLittleHawk on his way to the Port board to tell them off for being negative about his friend.

Papley style? He was drafted at 19, debuted his first season on the list, played 20 games and went at more than a goal a game for the minor premiers.

At best he could end up a solid journeyman (US definition) though the more likely scenario is he's off the list in 12-24 months.

What a bizarre response.
No its not! You responded to a poster talking about Port 'cycling through' discarded players trying to find a gem, and you respond with comparisons "between bringing in a kozzy pickett/cyril rioli type small compared to a mcentee/evans."

I mean, what the hell? What do elite 1st round draft picks in Kozzy & Rioli have to do with Port recycling a freebie Geelong discard? I dont even get what point you are making.

And you call my post bizarre!

Agreed, and the `family friend' info was only divulged after another poster suggested a likely connection.

That we shouldn't be cycling through casts off plods and be targeting elite talent.

Didn't think it needed explanation, but there you go.

Yes it was. But not as an immediate response to that assertion. Still took until the next day for that to be revealed.

Nah, we have expectations. As a Vic you won’t understand our history, you struggle with your own.
We aren’t a charity, we aren’t a last chance saloon, we ARE the most successful top level club in Aussie Rules. With supporters angry with the club for going so long without a flag!

He must now earn our respect, he doesn’t get it by turning up, he gets its by giving his heart and soul on the oval. Once he does, he will be idolised forever! We are an all or nothing kind of place.

My expectation is he needs to be a star small forward at SANFL level, and be an AFL standard depth small forward if/when Fantasia and Rioli are injured. If he can do that, then he’s doing his role. Anything more is a bonus.

I really don't understand why this part is important. I couldn't care less when the revelation of a connection was revealed. In fact, I think it was glaringly obvious that I was invested, with my posts.
A Hawthorn supporter on the Port board supporting an ex Cats player, who hasn't achieved anything yet.

Port staff think Francis has potential to fill a role, and I hope they are proven correct.

I'd be more worried about Amon's role if I were you.

It's not a crime to be a soft outside player but you traded away the engine room he must feel like he was sold a lemon.
