Personally, I don't like the idea of using Walker in defence for this game. I think we will need him in the midfield rotation if we are to have any chance of beating the Dawks. Would like to see Bower start to establish himself on the HBF.

Bower has earned a spot this week, maybe could come in to play on Roughy at Saddo's expense. Didn't do enought with limited oportunity last week and needs to press his case in te two's.

I'd almost play Walker on Franklin. Need a running type player to go with his mobility, and Walker has a decent leap in the air. Definately wouldn't play Thornton on Franklin.

Thornton on Roughead, Waite on Williams is how I'd go. Wouldn't worry about Boyle, might not even get a game.

Fevola...... I'd play Croad on him if he comes back as he has the speed, Gilham might get a crack after a good game. I hope we don't play Dawson but we seem to be trying to fast track him on the bigger forwards even though he's probably 12 months away from having the body to do it, even though he has bulked up a fair bit.

Should be a pretty good game, lots of inexperience out there always makes for good viewing.

I'd be happy with the following match-ups:

Roughead - Setanta
Franklin - Waite
Williams - Bower/Anderson

Allowing Thornton to play on a less rated forward, as he reads the play well and can link up with others off HB.

Tex should play in the midfield, and as a secondary option on Williams.

Drop Young and Saddo for Bower and Anderson. Allows them to get a full run in the twos.

Maybe look at bringing in Bentick or Blackwell to add some strength to the midfield. That said I'd love to see Grigg get a run too!!

It's great our team is no longer a walk up start!

Waite vs Franklin
O'hAilpin vs Roughead
Thornton vs Williams

Ps ... In: Bentick

I agree that these would be your best match ups... but i think we will have the best in the fwd line... saying that... your fwd line will also get up on our back men, as guys like croad jacobs and smith are missing, so its all going to be played in the middle.

Our backs are good young players, but are lacking experience and size. Expect Dawson to have first crack at Fev. He is ACs project player and will be given every chance. Gilham is our other FB project, and may get second crack. If Fev becomes too much of a handful, then Roughead or Robbie Campbell will be thrown back. We may start Hodge back... to help out.... but that will hurt our midfield of course

Looking fwd to the game!

Completely agree.
As for the changes, i'd make 2.

In - Bower, Bentick
Out - Saddimgton, Jackson

I really want to see either Anderson or Grigg line up this week too!!!!

Read the Franklin V Kennedy Thread.
And just now the defence thread.

Interesting idea to bring bower in on Franklin.

So what do you think for matchups on
Williams
&
Franklin

Cameron Cloke on Mark Williams and Eddie Betts on Lance Franklin

I wasn't aware we had a Saddimgton HBF :p

He must have been terrible, if he's being dropped without actually playing against Essendon :p :thumbsu:

You probably just listed the worst two match ups of this thread haha

Willo would burn cam cloke for pace off the mark, and i would expect him to kick a bag.

And if you play a small on franklin he will take marks. Eg when you played McGrath on him last round and he got murdered in the air.

I'm not concerned greatly by the midfield. I think we have you covered there pretty well. You have better backs to match our forwards this year, but we still have plenty more options than when we were just willo conscious. Buddy / Willo / Dixon / Croad (if he plays) / Roughead all more than capable of slotting several majours. Your forward line still relies heavily on fev. Ideally we would play someone like croad on him and have jacobs roaming around the backline plugging the holes. Im not sure if either of those blokes are available just yet though.

Who knows. One things for sure - the home ground advantage should give us a bit of an edge! We do love tassie

(Yawn).....do I bother..........sure.......

Firstly, the matchups you sighted were riduculous.......so much so you would think the person that wrote them may have been joking............ (spot this ymbol next time).

Secondly, it amazes me that we are still Fev focussed, yet Roughhead, who has done nothing......ever......is suddenly a force to be reckoned with.
There is a young bloke called Whitnall who plays forward for us, keep an eye out for him, oh yes, and Kennedy, who, in his short time as an AFL player has done more than Roughy. Dixon.......Fisher.........
I won't even start on Betts.........and on we go.
You should make an effort to know our players before making such stupid comments.

How many Croads do you have? Seems one to kick goals and the other to stop Fev, when the answer is probably closer to none.

What about Hartlett?!?!?!

Thornton should play on Williams because he has done very well against him in recent meetings, and Tex should be left free to run up the ground more.

Waite will probably start on Buddy (seeing as he has already been interviewed about the matchup) with Carlos on Roughead in the square, but I'd like Carlos' skill at ground level tested with a bit of time on Buddy.

I'd love to see Zac Dawson get the job on Fev, because Fev loves kicking big bags and Dawson (and Clarkson) apparently loves having big bags kicked on him -match made in heaven I say!!!

They could try to play Croad on Fev but last time we played the Hawks they got an 8 goal or so jump on us in the first quarter and we almost came back from that and beat them on the back of a cool 8 goal performance from Fev ON CROAD (we probably would have won on the back of a biger haul from Fev if not for the Bryan elbow to the head that took him out of the game in the last quarter)!

Oh no...how embarrasing for you! :o

I was very serious about those match ups

I really would start with Cam Cloke on Mark Williams and Eddie Betts on Buddy Franklin

O'halpin on Franklin would be intresting, both freak athletes, tall, fast

I think Franklin would turn him too easily.
On the quicker running types Carlos didn't play the angles well last year, and as they turned would find himself 5m behind almost instantly - O'Laughlin vs Swans. He is much better suited to the overhead marking, leading forwards ATM - Roughy, Croad, Dixon

guys i dont think we need to worry bout franklin... it seems to me that Hawthorn have noone to put on fevvv hence they will franklin on him, there goes the trouble hahahaha
