Where to from here?...
I hope we get some great players with the money we would have spent on him.
I'm confidant we have moves a foot. We'd have been preparing for this, granted probably not Sydney, but still ready.

To be honest Buddy didn't do much in the GF. Just ran around the ground throwing his weight around and shanked a set shot almost as bad as Nat Fyfe. We should contact Jonathan Brown and get him to play decoy while crushing skulls around the ground.
I actually thought he played an excellent game based on what he was probably required to do. Hit contests hard, won a fair bit of the pill and dished it off beautifully. Think it will be under rated for a long time.

I thought he had a pretty good game actually. May need to rewatch through new lenses.

Well
Thank you Lance for making going to the footy so much fun
I told my six year old daughter that buddy doesn't play for the hawks anymore tonight
She cried
She has been wearing her buddy badge since Saturday but now it's in the bin
Yep, people are going to react in different ways, sadness, betrayal, anger and reflection
For myself, I will reflect and continue to remind myself what a wonderful club I support
The premiership is fresh in my mind and being there was surreal

Good luck Bud
Going to the footy will be less fun without you
Oh I'm sorry :( I guess it's the only time I've been glad that my 2 follow their dad and barrack for the Dees.

Agree with you. I find it very hard to wish him well go forward right now.

If any good can come out of this is that they dismantle the stupid COLA crap right now.

Two years running the Swans are potentially nabbing marquee players for absolutely nothing, and aided by a material advantage that other clubs don;t have.

it's a disgrace.
Spot on Grizz. Losing Buddy for nothing is one thing, losing Buddy to Sydney for nothing (particularly after they picked up Tippett last year) is another!

It's absolutely ridiculous that they can afford to do this. Brisbane, Adelaide, etc. must be spitting chips over it as well.

He inspired me over the years. We don't know the full story, what's going on in his mind. For what he gave me, I will be always grateful. I'm not going to be one of those people that boos him when he's playing for the Shitney Swats.

Also, we no longer need Buddy. We have a great group who really love the club. Look at all the players that re-signed recently with no fuss! They're not going away soon. We'll ride this bump with a huge grin, like we always do.
I will never go or watch him again so i will not be one of those people that Boo's him from the stands or the TV.Very pissed

If Sydney lose cola and surely they must now. Buddy who has 4-5 years left max, he will effectively cost Sydney $3mil in cap space a year.

This is the future of footy. Supporters should never become too attached to their players because the next season they could be playing somewhere else. Players have more power than clubs these days, and that's a sad reflection on where footy is heading. The days of club loyalty are well and truly dead.

Even if Buddy re-signs with the Hawks at the end of the season, I'll never forgive him for the disruptive effect it will have on the club this season, arguably the most crucial season in terms of premiership windows. At least Buddy's getting his jollies, and that's obviously all he cares about.
I don't like commenting on your board about this issue, but this absolutely correct. Vlad and his cronies have torn the heart out of football with their free-agency crap. I would imagine players like goodes, kirk and bolton could have moved elsewhere if they were in their prime now.

My team is pretty much trading COLA for franklin rather than a draft pick. I believe that COLA should help players on low salaries everywhere <300,000. This point will be moot soon since the AFL will just raise the cap of other teams to match the COLA and remove it entirely.

On reflection, and reading the various reports, this whole thing has been a long time in the planning. Now, taking that as a given, what we have is a situation where the best interests of the club aren't being considered by Buddy and his management in any way. Firstly, strung us out with a week to make the best of it. Secondly, and most damning, the whole scenario has been constructed in such way that Hawthorn loses everything i.e. a cynical 150 year deal that basically Hawthorn would be insane to match. The Swans gain everything, we lose on face value.

So I say to you people who are magnanimous about Buddy leaving, or can 'understand it', from a list management/trading perspective, think again. The guy has thrown us under a bus. We cannot expect to get anything barring some crap compensation for this, unless something extraordinary happens. If he loved the club and wanted the best for us and his fellow players, this could have been brokered an entirely different way.

It's the very definition of a self-serving deal from both Buddy and the Swans. And as for the Fat Controller, your legacy continues to grow. Frack off to the tennis job or whatever role you're now going to slide into now you've placed your indelible stamp on the game.

I don't think I'll ever watch any game involving the Sydney Swans anymore. I've lost all respect for those Muppet's.

Now I know exactly how Adelaide supporters felt this time last year.
I live in nsw and Sydney games get rammed down my throat. I try to avoid them but it is hard. I wonder whether the afl is actually pretty happy about this. At least swans won't be so boring to watch now. I still won't be watching though.

This.

This deal is intended to screw us. Buddy does not love nor even care about our club. He cares about himself - which means while at Hawthorn he only cared about the club because it could win him adulation. You don't intentionally f*ck over something you love or care about.

Totally agree and have said this myself in conversation regarding buddy. I'm wanting to believe that we knew something about this and given our incredible drafting and trading team hope we have something up our sleeve.

Couldn't agree more. He and the Swans have shat on us. I'd expect nothing less from them, but him, well, **** you Lance.

Am I alone in saying that Buddy has destroyed everything that he has achieved at Hawthorn by moving to the Swans? I was always of the opinion that if he moved to the Giants for the "crazy" money that was being reported then it was purely a business decision and imo his heart would always be Hawthorn deep down (similar to Ablett taking the cash to move up to the Gold Coast).
The fact though that it is Sydney who he has decided to sign with stings badly, and if the reports that he got Pickering to approach the Swans to broker a deal, not long after we had all had our guts ripped out in the GF against that very club, makes it sting even worse. The club will move on pretty quickly after he goes, with a playing list, coaching staff and game plan that is in place for consolidated success, regardless of if he were here not but as far as his legacy with Hawthorn Football Club goes, I cant see it as being anything more then damaged to the point of no return, yes he will always be a two time premiership player, Coleman medalist, All Australian as a Hawthorn player but I cant see the events of today and the last 12 months as being anything less then unforgivable, I hope he has fun up there in plastic town with all the c-grade celebs and pill popping rugby boys.
