I don't think he'll go. He's not in contention for the B&F anyway. I don't think he's in contention for any of the B&F awards...or am I forgetting something?
I think he needs to go along and suck up the discomfort, not simply avoid it because it's unpleasant. I'll be (even more) disappointed if he wimps out. Consequences to actions.

This is the future of footy. Supporters should never become too attached to their players because the next season they could be playing somewhere else. Players have more power than clubs these days, and that's a sad reflection on where footy is heading. The days of club loyalty are well and truly dead.

Even if Buddy re-signs with the Hawks at the end of the season, I'll never forgive him for the disruptive effect it will have on the club this season, arguably the most crucial season in terms of premiership windows. At least Buddy's getting his jollies, and that's obviously all he cares about.
I remember feeling the same way. And actually I do feel the same way now. If he had talked to Sydney after last years GF , (IF, I SAID) then that would make the whole GWS thing a load of lies and a bad
joke.
This season has been a crap year as far as wondering about this player . You know he's not worth the angst, he wants more $'s, so I will wait and see on Friday what happens , if he stays good, if not we really don't need or want him. And even if he resigns what kind of opinion will we have of him anyway.
No, the more I think about it the more I think I was right , should have told our "champion" make a decision or P off to Box Hill for the 2013 season. Well, they didn't need him to win a flag.
I guess your right Adelaide Hawk , we have a new world which will stuff the best sport on the earth. Greed is the go.
At least we have some real Hawks who have resigned with our club. And look at Brendan Whitecross what a brilliant contributor to our flag this year and last years game too. He never made either' but he's a Hawk.

Eddie was very strong on AFL360 tonight.
Sadly I think we will hear zero from our President on the matter.

These are exactly the times where I wish Kennett was still our leader, make no mistake about it he's a bonehead at times, but the one thing you can't question is that he's a fighter.

Why is everyone in the media saying we simply can't match the offer, that it's tools risky and irresponsible, yet somehow it's not too risky or irresponsible for the swans to offer it in the first place?
Note: I don't think we should match, I'm just wondering why is not so risky for them?

I can understand the disappointment, it's a shit deal and we can't do anything about it.

But, we are statistically a better team without him. We have a lot of money to spend on young mids/rucks to set us up in the long term. All of the Buddy hype and stress can now be transferred over to the Swans.
I think both Hawthorn and Sydney both knew during the year that this was going to happen. 2013 might have been about getting used to Buddy not being there and finding different avenues to goal.
Clarko might have said to Buddy - "Do the team thing this year, help us win the flag and then you can f*** off to Sydney"

I think people are missing the point.
Buddy wants to be at the Hawthorn football club. He loves this club to bits and wears his heart on his sleeve when he plays for us. But he doesn't want to live in Melbourne. He can't go have a coffee down the street, he can't go buy new clothes, he can't do anything without the media hassling him over anything. If any of you were to listen to what his team mates say of him, he is a quiet shy guy who would prefer to live his life with freedom, instead of living life in a fishbowl. I have no ill feelings towards Buddy and you guys shouldn't either. It is his life and he will put his mental health ahead of your mental health.

So please, when we play Sydney next year. Don't boo him. It will destroy him hearing the supporters he loves with all his heart booing him.
And deep down, you know you don't want to see the big bud down in the dumps.

Because it's a free hit for them if Buddy never plays a game they are in pretty much the same position as every other club cap wise.

Most media I've heard today questioned the move.. and what allowed them to pull the move.
Which I found interesting.

And if we match the offer, Sydney hold all the cards, and we possibly roll ourselves if they play funny boogers.

F8ck that.

Only a few weeks after our grand Final loss whilst our players were hurting , he was selling himself to the opponent who beat us. Then instead of doing the right thing for the cub, he conspired with Sydney to make an offer that Hawthorn could never match and in turn leave Hawthorn out in the cold. That's not love.

He is an epic dog.

i think buddy loves the attention, maybe at times it could get a bit excessive but there is no doubting he uses his image outside football for his advantage.

Nope.

Not interested in your argument mate.

If he did 'love the club' he would have specified some deal was done.

As Lake did, Gibson, Burgoyne etc

Maybe some thought all of these weren't 'win win' situations, but everyone got something.

Yeah I don't know how to feel, when Buddy did his thing he made me so proud to back a Hawthorn man. I hope for Freo's sake they are all wanting to get back on the track and win one with their team mates, rather than want to come to us to win one. If it is simply Buddy looking at all options fine but to actually target Sydney and say "he WANTS to play for them" bothers me. I had made my peace with Buddy going to the Giants. It would of been great for the game and I could feel like this was Hawthorns present to the Football world. This, this is an uneducated man from a rural community trying to get as much cash as possible. All I can think about is abusing him as he walks into the Gabba next year with my Hawthorn colours on.

Thought Sydney had a no dickhead policy. Might of been a bit harsh on Buddy but he does carry on like a goose sometimes out in public.

Shem might not be able to take the pressure that is about to be placed on him.

I hate Sydney, first Joey, then 2012, now Buddy. Guess this is how the good rivalries are built.

I shouldn't feel this shit three days after a grand final win.

Guess we can only hope that the AFL rejects it on some ground.

How cheap will some of the Buddy stuff get??

Our President will say nothing.

Just on this..
There has now been comment condemning the Buddy offer by Jeff Kennett, Eddie McGuire, James Brayshaw, Sticks Kernahan and Mick Malthouse.
And our club says nothing bar a 1 paragraph statement on the club website.
We are one of the powerhouses of the competition and we should be heard.

I understand all this, I really do, but I think the solution he has chosen will do more harm than good for everyone, himself included. The cure could end up being worse than the disease.

Having said that, I will never boo him, I don't want to cause him more pain, but I might be avoiding Swans' matches for awhile.
