Im still weighing it up myself, but does anyone think that buddy is worth 1.2 mil a year over 5 years, considering the massive chunk it takes out of our salary cap and possible repercussions it could have on the rest of our list?
Im probably more so referring to his onfield worth rather than off field...

I think the Hawthorn offer will set him up for life. As much as GWS can throw at him, Hawthorn are offering a significant amount of money which may be increased. I hope he chooses Hawthorn over that plastic club.

I can understand guys on 300k leaving for 450-500k offers. However Buddy Franklin is going to be offered 5million over 5 years at Hawthorn when it comes down to it.

If he can't live a satisfying life with that coin he has the wrong people around him advising him how to use his $$$.

Even Still, we must match GWS' offer. If they want him that bad they will still trade for him. We must get this to trade week and demand Whitfield or pick 1.

I'm sure that the club know exactly what they can offer Buddy.
Maybe $1mill is the starting point and they could very well be able to go up to $1.2 or $1.3
If the sticking point with Buddy is the length of the contract, then the Hawks may now come to the party and offer 5 years. Personally, I don't know that I would still want Bud running around for us much after 30-31 years of age and yet GWS are willing to offer him a contract that will see him still going around as a 32-33yo. And it just goes on and on...

For anyone that missed it.

To me the one positive that came from it, is that it seems we still have a bit of wiggle room in our offer. As it currently stand the offer to him is 4 years at $1 mil a year. If we up to 5 years at $1.1 - 1.2 mil, that might be enough to get it done.
.

Did you miss the qualifier from Barrett?

" Buddy feels he can get more out of that is my take on the situation"

It's only his opinion.
Take it for what it is worth.

I'd love to know who these people are who "supposedly" leak this information to journos.

This is my take on it:

Barrett: So Sheeds, what do you think a club would have to pay to get a guy like Franklin out of Hawthorn?
Sheedy: Well Buddy is one of the superstars of the comp, I reckon a club might have pay up to $1.5M a season for him.
Barrett: So would GWS pay $1.5M a year for him? Is that the offer you have put to Buddy?
Sheedy: We would love to have Buddy at GWS *cheeky Sheedy grin*

Thursday night rolls around.....
Barrett: In a Footy Show Exclusive, I can confirm that.....................

I really think he will go
I wonder if he will push for some compo for the hawks
I wouldn't begrudge him 9 mil over 6 years, but I can also remember the days of Capper to the bears and really wonder how he'd go up there

From a salary cap point of view, the question can be asked, but for how much money he brings into the club…..he is worth every cent and more!
The club makes millions out of him.
Sponsorships, memberships (how many kids have become Hawks fans and eventually members because of Buddy?), memorabilia…..he is worth so much more to Hawthorn than what we see on the footy field.

But if we tie too much money to him, where does that leave our other and future stars? And recruiting during the time of his contract to continue to build the side and keep us competitive after he's gone?
I understand his worth off the field in $$, but us continuing to be competitive over extended period is also worth the $$.
I don't doubt his worth, but these factors are just as important IMO.

during this 4 or 5 year deal does buddy qualify for vets list with us at some stage? if so cant you back load the contract so that a larger chunk is paid when he goes on vets list, thus reducing the amount that counts towards the salary cap in those years?
