Buddy is not the kind of player who can carry a side that is playing poorly. He needs good delivery and a good volume of opportunities, because he is not great overhead. He also gives away masses of free kicks (although watch the downturn on that front after he moves to GWS).

Anyway, at $9 million, he will go to GWS next year and kick around 60 goals or less over the next few years, playing in front of empty stands and in big losses. He will become a sorry and irrelevant, although highly paid figure in the AFL.

and he also gets held with out the ball and scragged and hit high and and punched and no free's or no suspension for the one that punched him even with full footage of it happening [yes old but Rance punched him the week after he lost the tooth , he gets done for the bump to cuz yet rance got nothing ]
yes gives free's away sometimes they are soft ones some times just unfortunate other times he does not even touch the guy and they pay a free against him 08 GF is a prime example for that one

If Buddy goes to GWS won't the world explode? I mean, he's buddy so he doesn't get free kicks even when they're plain to see, but he'll be in an AFL.. oops, GWS Jumper, so he'll get free kicks?

Sheedy's just riding on the big Bud's publicity coat tails, that is what his job with GWS is now publicity, Cameron's calling the shots. And money needs? Gibbo and Buddy's side line business Nena @ Pasedena pulled in $10 mil last year, i don't think either will go short for a quid when they're finished playing.
My poorly considered opinion is if Buddy is leaving he'll be switching codes.
Maybe he can go to the NFL as a tight end.........but he will need to learn how to catch

Buddy is having problems with his thumbs and hands..I noticed weeks ago he simply can't mark a ball because of his hands. Just watch him when attempting to mark it? I am telling you, the majority of the time he can't put his hands and thumbs around the ball!It is so obvious to me..
if any say he does not do contested marks i got some photos that prove otherwise

Yeah so did I. I thought to myself substantiate it with some facts, I was hoping he didn't hear something that we hadn't, that's why I thought I would bring it up to see if anybody else heard it.

I did hear them talking up his work rate through the game, but this was a separate comment that wasn't given much attention. Glad somebody else heard it RM, thought I was jumping at shadows.
I heard it too, and just took it as a cheap shot.

if he was in a gws jumper cause they would have invested money in it they want a return if that were to happen that is which i doubt

Hawks Heroes, You got a few pics of him marking, but you didn't get any of those he missed, too many. He is defintely having problems with hands, this is not the first time..He must have some problem, you don't see others marking with his fingers and thumb straight, so many times he couldn't curl his fingers round it. He was really bad last week, maybe they are numb, but something is wrong with him..There is a stiffness in them..If I am the only one notice it, then I must be going mental!

This:In an era where money and so called greener pastures beckon so easily, it is refreshing to see players like Boomer Harvey and Dustin Fletcher stick with their original clubs though thick and thin.

While both players have been well looked after by their respective clubs, lucrative offers from rival teams would have certainly landed on their tables at various stages of their careers.
That they have been happy to reject these offers and stay with their original clubs over such a long period of time is heartening and their supporters love them for it.
They are respected as much for their loyalty as for their on-field exploits.

Essendon’s re-signing of Jobe Watson earlier this week is also to be celebrated.
With the saga surrounding Gary Ablett Junior’s departure from Geelong still fresh in the memory of many fans, followed by a similar situation with Tom Scully leaving Melbourne a year later, and now Buddy Franklin causing unending speculation after refusing to talk contracts with the Hawks hierarchy until the season’s end, Watson’s re-signing is a breath of fresh air.

The reigning Brownlow medallist is happy at Essendon, and although his new contract will net him in the vicinity of $800,000 per year over the next four years, it is hardly in the upper echelons of what the game’s highest paid players are earning.

Watson could have held out to season’s end like Franklin, holding his club to ransom in a bid to get the best offer possible, but he is happy in his surroundings and was willing to sacrifice further dollars to continue to captain the club he holds so dear.

I can understand players looking for the best deal, after all they are a long time retired, but gee, it’s great when they stick around isn’t it?
Loyalty will never be perfect in any field, but, when it dips below a certain level in team sports, that sport is over, particularly as a mass event. The AFL relies on fan loyalty as its bottom line, and depends on it for its bottom line. Players playing for the jumper big bucks is a bottom line for fans.:thumbsu:

I was at the Gold coast game. Seems like they can do pretty much what they like to Buddy. He was being held by Rory Thompason all game. The umpiring at that game was an absolute disgrace..making it up as they go...based on the player whose has or hasn't got the ball...there used to a be a standard of umpiring...not anymore!

In that case JD himself would have been worth 7 picks !!

I was bemused to hear that geelong are making noises that theyd welcome ablett jnr back with open arms.

Im not suer id be so keen with bud or even ablett

Strikes me GAJ wants a bit of all worlds, he wants to be a home town hero ( with all the business opportunities after footy ) plus the big $$$$$ too. Seems a bit rich to me

When your as good as Ablett you get whatever you want
That's the benefit of being the best
Buds in a similar position
Everyone wants him, so you give him the world to get him
Hawks can only offer so much, so it's up to Bud to decide what's most important to him for the next 4-6 years

I hope Buddy stays because he's a superstar player, but you couldn't blame him for leaving if the money they are talking about is fair dinkum and I'm starting to warm to the idea (or maybe accept) that he won't be around next year. We can open up a fair bit of space in the salary cap, which hopefully isn't used on Dale Thomas and get a couple of decent picks. Buddy leaving wont be the end of the Hawthorn Football Club and we'd still be a top 4 side next year without him.
