Thanks Buzz, young-feller-me-lad.

I think Medhurst is the surprise on this thread. No-one is disputing his selection on anyones side, even after Farmer and Steggles Matera (2nd luckiest bloke out there) are lining up. Just going to point out West Coast passed on him at 22 (Seaby) and 38 (Hansen), for the record.

Grover has come a long way in twelve games, too. No-one would have worn him at the start of the season.

Judd is a player, no doubt, despite his shoulders. However his form has gone a little bit backwards in the past few weeks. However, Siegert has continued to improve mid-season, and I don't mind if you guys continue to under-rate him. Neither made my side, Judd would have been closer (for impact off the bench).

Wooden is the luckiest guy in my side, only there as a stopper on an opposition player. Can't believe I let myself type it, really.

The Freagles name is alright ... but I thought after the recent drug taking debacle we should rename the team
E-Mantle!:D

Funky, I have never tried to hide my feelings about Pinocchio.

Before the season (and at times, during the season) I also considered him a chump and a crab. But to be fair, he has been all right over the last couple of months. I still wouldn't have him in Freagle/E-Mantle colours (Ochre, Purple and Green) though.

Blocker, Siegert is nothing special (I actually think Haines is a much better prospect).

Judd, on the other hand, will be in the top echelon of midfielders within a few years and despite a shocker last week has been in terrific form all year.

Both have been very good this year and it is in no way, shape or form clear to anyone who has been better. Jakovich is the obvious choice for CHB because he has more experience, reads the play better and knows how to play that position better than Pavlich.

Take your blue and yellow glasses off mate. Ask any neutral supporter (who has seen a fair amount of freo and WC games) who has been better at CHB this year out of the two, and they will tell you straight away that Pav has been much better than Jako. He has beaten just about every opponent he has played on this year, as well as setting up play from defense with his creativity and his deadly accurate, penetrating kick. His fitness and mobility are outstanding for a man of his size and several times during the season he has played in the midfield.

You harp on about Pav's versitility then fair enough, play him somewhere else.

Why should Pavlich be moved out of the position that he has played at for most of the year just to allow Jakovich a position on the starting 18, when Pav HAS been the better of the two this year at CHB.

I would start Bell on the ground if we were gonna use a spare man in defence, but im happy with my back six and believe they would come at worst even with there opponents so there is no need for Bell to be a spare man in defence. He isnt as attacking as Kerr so Bell comes off the bench to be used in spurts.

LOL. Bell attracts a tagger every week and still gathers 30-35 possessions, whereas Kerr has no tagger, but still averages 10 or 15 possessions less than what Bell averages. If Bell was to begin a game on the bench and be used in spurts, his greatest asset (his fitness) wouldn't be put to full use. You say that Kerr is more attacking than Bell, but tell me Jod, how many goals have each of these players kicked for the season thus far? I would be very interested to know. Bell covers enormous territory, all over the ground. He runs backward of centre to help out in defense which accounts for the possessions he gathers in the defensive 50. He also runs forward of centre to deliver the ball inside 50 and help out in attack. He is a valuable link-man around the ground and a true leader who rarely makes a mistake. Putting Kerr ahead of him is an insult to the great man's football ability.

After careful consideration, i've put together my freagles team :

FF: Ph. Matera T. Wilson M. Merenda
HF: A. Williams M. Gardiner D.Wirrpunda
C: M. Braun D. Kerr C. Judd
HB: A. Hunter G Jakovich M Collica
FB: P. Matera A Mcintosh J. Wooden
Followers: D.Cox, R.Jones, B.Cousins

Sorry, but it had to be done :p

Like you say DJ, Peter Bell's greatest asset is his fitness. He is similar to Cuzz in a lot of ways because he's constantly running to become an option for his team-mates all over the field.

But unlike Cousins, he doesn't seem to be getting nearly as much ball in the forward half this year. In fact he's only taken the ball inside fifty on 26 occasions this year, which is considerably less then Cuzz's 54 and even Kerr's 48.

But he's still an outstanding player, and I agree that he his a definite starter for the mighty Freagles.

Master Buzz, esq.

Don't disagree with much of your statement. Nothing special is a bit harsh, but he does struggle to match up on a marking forward. Definitely a weakness to overcome. He has been keeping Kickett, McPhee, Shipp and others out of the side this year.

Judd will be class, has time in traffic, generally excellent delivery and finish under pressure.

Haines can play great outside footy.

How about red, green and purple for the Dockgles?

I agree with you Buzz. I think that was the difference between Bell at North and Bell at Freo. When he was at North he was more of an attacking player and running forward of centre delivering the ball inside 50, and presenting to be an attacking option more often than what he is doing at Freo.

Siegert has been a consistant peformer as a defensive midfielder for us this year, but he hasn't been anything spectacular. In the games they have played this year, I think Polak, Haines and Medhurst have all outperformed him as first year players. Judd is an exciting prospect for West Coast, he set the world on fire in his first few games, but in the last couple of weeks he has been below his best. I couldn't find a spot for him in the Freagles/E-Mantle/Dockgles team.

The real reason Jako would be CHB is because he can't play another position if his life depended on it!! Full stop!

It would work though. Jako could take the mark at HB. Look tough, flex a bicep and then hand pass to someone with some kind of mobility (most probably to Pav).

afl.com had Pav as the all-australian CHB so far and Gary Lyon and Gerad Healy were torn between Leppitsch and Pav in their team. Times are achangin' jod. Jako is a good CHB and would make the Freagles starting 18 but the fact Pav at 20 is being compared to Jako at 27-28 yrs old must make you realise the greatness of young Pav.

Knee reconstructions can't be used as an excuse any more either these days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Jako was a speed merchant who used superior leg speed or a side-step (a-la Chris Judd) and perhaps a knee recon slowed that then maybe.... But players are making comebacks from knee recons every second week these days. And most are not that significantly impaired.

Your deranged!

Pavlich has absolutely nothing on the great Glen Jakovich....until Pavlich has two premiership medallions, 4 B&F's and i think 5 AA guernseys, then and only then will we talk about Pavlich even being allowed to clean Jakovichs boots.

You really need to take off your Docker glasses and realise just how good a player Glen Jakovich was and still is.

Agreed! Although it should be a HB flank.

Just trying to get jod to acknowledge that Pav is a kick-ass player and will only get much better. And that Jakos lack of flexibility is what is determining the postions (not that Jako is better).

What did i say that made you think i dont believe Pavlich to be a kick ass player...

Pavlich is a very good footballer but if we put the two teams together, CHB would be Jako's position because he plays that position better than young Pavlich. I also agree that he cant play any other position, but why does that matter when he is so good at CHB?

It's like playing Cousins at FF?? Why would you bother when he is the best when on the ball...

I dont have Blue and Yellow glasses....i have common sense. Jakovich is a very good CHB, therefore he starts in that position because he can only play that position, he is too good to leave out of the side and pretty useless on the bench. So we put Jako in his natural position and play Pavlich on a HB flank or in a pocket or on the ball or up forward. Im thinking like a coach. Whether or not one or the other has been better this year at CHB is purely an opinion, your opinion is obviously your player, my opinion is my player.

On Bell, whats wrong with him on the bench? I want attacking midfielders, not guys who spend the whole game picking up easy possesions as a spare man in defence. Bell would certainly get a run and maybe i would start him up forward but Bell just frustrates me with the way he is wasted in defence...

There will be no Freagles team. So why bring your trash here? Your players are trash and we dont want them on our team. Your club eats its own arse.

Browny, even though you are a Dockers supporter, grow up a bit. I don't particulary like some Eagles supporters like the most of us, but if you're going to criticise, atleast say something useful.

There is not going to be an All-WA side or SA side but people still make them dont they? It creates discussion amongst footy followers, and people argue who should be where as we've seen in this thread.

If there's not going to be a merged side then why discuss it?

There's no point.

5 AA guerneys. Your AA obviously doesn't stand for All Australian. It can't!

Jako was AA twice (94, 95) and hasn't been AA for 7 years. Jako was AA in his 4th afl season.

If Pav is AA this year (as many eastern staters are saying atm) then it would mean he would have been AA after only his third season. I'm sure he'll win his fair share of B&F's as well.

Premierships are a team measure and so measure those around you more than the individual (But I'm hoping Pav wins at least one for Freo).

Heres some classic Jako material taken from west coast own player profile on westcoasteagles.com...

"The greatest centre half-back in the club's history showed signs last year that his best is behind him. However, still managed to play all 22 games and maintained his status as the club's best defender. Occasionally found wanting on more mobile opponents, but his experience in the clinches is a huge asset in a youthful line-up. Suffered an inglorious end to the season when benched after being soundly beaten by All-Australian centre half-forward and Port star Warren Tredrea."

Haa Ha!

jod I still believe that you are by yourself when it comes to Bell on the bench. A poll on the main board on whether any afl team would leave Bell on the bench would be interesting. I would imagine over 80% (at least) would disagree with you.

I apologise, i said 5...but i also said "I think" as i wasnt sure. Turns out i got him mixed up with Matera who i believe is a 5 time AA.

Well if i was coach of this supposed Freagles team i would start Bell on the ground but i would give him strict instructions to not drift into the backline, to try to stay forward of centre and kick some goals....none of this wasting him in defence.

First of all, exact positions mean diddly squat in todays football.

Personally I would play both Pav and Jako at CHB. Whats wrong with having two centre half backs with a small player like Grover or Pe Matera rebounding? Mixture of youth and experience is always a good mix.

Secondly on Bell, I wouldn't play him off the bench. Sorry jod, this is one I don't agree on. You're well aware that our midfield group is very attacking, the defensive skills of some of them however are lamentable. Besides Cousins and sometimes Judd, the rest are slackarses when it comes to defending which is one of the reasons we have had so many points scored against us. By having Bell in the midfield, we have an old WC wing thing happening with a defensive player on one side and attacking on the other. Every team needs its defensive players and Bell is certainly very good at what he does. Hence I would play him.

My team:

FF: Phil Matera...Wilson...J Longmuir
HF: Farmer...Gardiner...Medhurst
C: Chambers...Haselby...Wirrpunda
HF: Pe Matera...Jakovich...Pavlich
FB: Parker...McIntosh...Collica

R: Simmonds...Cousins...Bell

B: Grover, Cook, Croad, Kerr

Yes, you saw that right, Chambers on the wing. 13 goals from 11 games and only play about 66% of the time is pretty good. He is turning into a very good wingman, both attacking and defensive.

Not a bad team I though. :)

Fair enough!;)

btw, good win by the eagles today (if I compliment you it might distract you from talking about how Freo played). :(

Think you'll find that's ripped straight out of this year's AFL guide. The fact it happens to be on westcoasteagles.telstra.sellout.com.au doesn't mean it's got anything to do with the Eagles.

Hahah ... Thanks and I think I will just leave you in your own misery about your game today. Really winnable considering what happened to Sydney during the week. Hope you guys can rebound and keep you finals push on track next weekend.

The Port game will single handedly determine the Dockers season, lose and making the Finals becomes very difficult, win and you are right in the think of things. A big game to say the least.

Saturday the 20th of July will be a very important date for the Eagles and Dockers in their quest for a spot in the top eight, (considering West Coast have got a tough run home).
Both sides would see this as a must win game.

Funky, your avatar must be one of the best going around in bigfooty.

Well big for the Dockers but we all know that West Coast will win, we always beat the Dockers so im my view, that game is actually like a break in our tough run home :D

Here I am having a slow morning... then I read jod's post.

Thanks for the laugh jod. Looking forward to the next derby. At least since its a Freo home game we won't have to put up with the SGIO...Go Eagles Go... chant over the PA or the Red Army (WTF!!!).
