I agree although i was thinking assault charges being laid as the bare minimum.

Back in 2004, Todd Bertuzzi viciously king-hit Steve Moore from behind during an NHL game, and was eventually charged (and plead guilty to) 'assault causing bodily harm'. I remember seeing coverage of it on Sportcenter at the time, and it was truly a sickening hit.

According to Wikipedia:
"After lying on the ice for several minutes, Moore was removed on a stretcher. He suffered three fractured vertebrae in his neck, a grade three concussion, vertebral ligament damage, stretching of the brachial plexus nerves, and facial cuts. To date, Moore has not appeared in another professional hockey game."

It's almost like they treated Betuzzi as the victim imo which sucks. He gets a 20 game suspension (whoopdy doo), a slap on the wrist with no criminal record, and then the lawsuit against him is thrown out.

Then after the 2nd lawsuit is lodged against him for almost $20m, he offers the victim an out of court settlement of a measly $350k! Then he procedes to sue the coach! What a freaking nerve this guy has.

Meanwhile, the victim hasn't recieved a cent and has never been able to play again.

What a sad state of affairs.

Here's a video of the incident, as well as the events leading up to it as well. The Bertuzzi hit was a retaliation for an earlier indiscretion by Moore, but that doesn't make it right at all. He clearly went overboard with the 'square-up'. All just pure macho garbage that was totally unnecesary in the first place IMO.
