Also if we're adding other sports Clint Malarchuks throat getting slashed is pretty dang freaky (even if it's in a sport with lots of blades around).

Certainly gets my number one. Shocking.

AFL injuries, can't go past Nathan Brown's leg. Jason Snell's ankle and Tony Shaw's elbow round out the trifecta.

Melbourne recruiters expertly diagnosing Jack Watts with Cryptorchidism and organising emergency vaginoplasty.
The Bulldogs entire forward line having to pull out before the game due to osteoporosis.

Anthony Stevens loosing litres of bloody from broken glass at Carey's pub from memory?
I think I remember the incident your referring to. Pretty sure Stevens was just walking along the street and a shard of glass fell from pretty high up and sliced his neck, I think he was pretty lucky to survive (may not have been Stevens)

had a friend who slipped over in the showers the thursday before a grand final, broke his wrist and missed out playing in the premiership.

another guy i know kicked the goalpost after missing a shot from 10 metres and broke his foot - end of season

another one broke his jaw after falling off a bike when he was being given a dinky - was the weekend before the finals.

guy from richmond in the early 90's did his knee taking drunk speccies on his mate outside a nightclub requiring a reconstruction.

Once I was playing snooker against a bloke who did his knee and ended up needing a reconstruction.

There was someone in the Australian swimming team dislocated their shoulder turning off their alarm in the morning. Mate of mine did a similar thing on a camping trip - had an afternoon snooze, woke up, stretched and dislocated his shoulder.

The worst i can think of was Steven King kicking a melbourne Ruckman in the face during a ruck contest.

I'm pretty sure it was Jeff White but it may have been Jolly. Anyway, Kingy is probably not the most co-ordinated of players, and probably not the brightest, he decided that he couldn't get his arms free so went for a fully extended Kung Fu kick at the ball.

Not sure that he got the ball but he landed a huge shin into White's face which is a fair effort considering he is 2 and a half metres tall. I was sitting in near the Geelong cheersquad, and was a fair distance from the play, but i still remember the noise of cheek bones imploding.

It's not on Youtube but it was the worst sporting injury i have seen.

Absolutely unbelievable, nothing tops this as far as freak injurys is concerned. To somehow pierce the neck with all the protection around wow....

Before this incident neck protection wasn't mandatory for goalies, it was this incident that made it mandatory for them

From that timesonline link earlier:

31. Alex Stepney

Alex Stepney gained notoriety in the 1970s playing for Manchester United for being a goalkeeper who took penalty kicks. Football fans (well this one, at least) used to hope that he missed just so you could see him have to sprint like Linford Christie the length of the field back to his own goal. But if you thought Peter Schmeichel set the standard at Old Trafford for bawling at his defenders, think again. In a match against Birmingham City Stepney shouted so loud at his hapless back four that he dislocated his jaw.

Fair effort that.

Pretty sure that was a bullshit story put out to cover up what really happened.

Was it Wayne Carey who injured his knee running into one of the square goal posts they were trialling at AAMI?

Did the crowd boo the goal post when it was showed on the big screen.

How the injury occured i can't exactly remember, but the noise of the melbourne player's nose breaking (can't remembeber which) in a final against geelong, in which i think was steven king who accidently kicked him. You could hear his nose cracking from about 4 rows into the crowd. Anyone want to inform me on the melbourne player, because for the life of me i can;t remember

Mark Thompson when asked bout the incident suggested Steven King was lucky for not breaking his leg.

Mate of mine i use to play with told me a good sorty, that former Port Adeliade player Bowen Lockwood stuffed his back from trying to climb into a cubicle and watch two lovely young ladies go at it at infamous melbourne nightclub Spy lounge. He slipped and completey stuffed his back, he told me this around the time an article was written on Lockwood in the herald sun.

Darren Wheildon for Fitzroy got ran over by a cab in King Street on a night on the turps. Broke his leg. That's pretty unlucky

Wheildon left Fitzroy after the 1994 season and played at West Adelaide before he was given another chance at AFL, recruited by Essendon with pick 15 in the 1995 AFL Draft. He however never got a chance to play for them after he was hit by a taxi in King Street and badly injured his legs, thus ending his career.:footy:
