Guys just a question

Dogs First pick (Pick5/6) and 3rd Round Pick
For T Mitchell and your 2nd Round Pick.

What do you think?

(PS I assume Heeney precludes your 1st round pick being part of deal)

I wouldn't trade Mitchell for pick 5 by itself let alone swapping one of our picks. He is also contracted for another two years.

Hey guys,

had a couple friends ask me about Mitchells contract status and i always though he was contracted till next year. Recently i saw this posted (Bolded for relevance)

Mitchell is injured for another 3 weeks with an ankle. I know he had 60 touches or whatever the other day, but I think his ankle is contributing to his absences. He can't put three or four good games together. Just looked it up - he got a five year deal in 2012, so he's there for the long haul

Does this mean he is contracted till the end of 2017 season?

I think we might find a trade partner in Melbourne this year.

They're looking for MIDs + towers & membrey would be good gets for them.

I wonder if we can get their first rounder and stitch up durdin/goddard and introduce them in the back half.

Melbourne would probably like Zak Jones as well. Getting Nathan and Zak together would be good PR for the club.

But Roos was really into Perris wasn't he?

Gee we can never work with our 1st rounders, we probably got towers thinking he was good to play seniors.

Don't like the idea of trading Membery though, his gona be gooood!

To be honest it really wouldn't surprise me if we did trade with Melbourne this year. Roos knows our players and knows who would be a value get, he also knows that we have strong midfield depth and there are good players who are not in the best 22.

It's not the first time fyfe has been linked with us, I really believe the money is there for him however I still find it extremely unlikely.

If he leaves freo, I think he will be at the hawks

As much as I would love to keep Mitchell, and think he's going to be an absolute star in the future, I would seriously contemplate a trade for pick number 2 or 3. According to draft reports there are some exciting key defender prospects going to go early in the draft and it's an area we are going to be sorely lacking in the future. We have an undeniable excess of mids currently on our list, with the oldest being McVeigh and McGlynn at 28, which is only going to get bigger with the acquisition of Heeney this year, as well as Dunkley next year if he pursues the father son option.

Having said that I think it is incredibly unlikely either Saints/Brisbane will offer that for him so I can't see it happening. I wouldn't contemplate trading him for less that that.

The only problem i see with that logic , is how hard it is to make the right choices when drafting kpp, especially defenders . How many of the first choice key defenders of each team were top 5 picks ??
When recruiting our next key defender, I would prefer to go the route of a player who has been in the system for a few years. Worked superbly with Richards

if we traded for say, pick 5, we would likely have to use it on Heeney, which would be a bit of a waste considering we can get him for 18. I really don't see Mitchell, Reid, Membrey getting traded. Towers maybe, but we signed everyone up for a reason. With a few retirements at the end of the year, we can draft some new guys and push up those on the list. Unless we do another left field signing, I see little list turnover like the last few years.
