his old man used to play for us.
Unfortunately that union has just created tension every time we are in contact.

Left us while captain because we were paying over the odds for guys like Dennis Collins and Andy Preston and not looking after the guys who had made the side.

Came back and had disputes with the club over payments over that period 1989-1990.

Tensions again over taking his sons.

He would be more than happy to sit down with us and smile and take an offer back to Collingwood just to pump up his sons contract. Thats where we would come into it.

I reckon we should target GWS and GS fringe young players. A great example of the sort of player that we should target is Anthony Miles. He is a fringe player there but an improvement on Tuck for years to come, knows how to find it.

If we could pinch a player like Treloar though, that would be amazing. put him on a big contract and offer them Jackson, Edwards and our second round pick (hold the first for another quality player!)

Exactly, do we really want the baggage that would come with Trav in his old man? Next time his contract was up he would happily smile whilst holding a gun at you to cough up more coin.

Nope!

The guy that I'd be looking at is Leigh Montagna from the Saints. He is exactly the sort of player we need. Uses it well and knows the right places to run to. With the Saints cap full to overflowing, if they keep Goddard then someone like Montagna could be shaken loose.

What your saying is correct but I could have sworn I read he had changed his management meaning his old man no longer his manager. In fact I think the old man is not an accredited player agent.

Having said that, Travis Cloke would at least listen to his old mans advice but his advice in the past has been, to not only Travis but the other 2 plodders is to take every cent you can get. This advice means if they resign Cloke both Luke Ball and Ben Reid are without a club or scrapping for basic wage. They have some major decisions to make at Colonwood.

Travis Cloke would solve 1 or 2 KPF probs for us .
What is the contract status of James Frawley as far as KPD goes .
If the tigers have a war chest , then what the hell , buy a finals berth :thumbsu:

Frawley signed for 4 years in 2010 when the Dees looked good.

Was thinking Troy Chaplin from port might be a good one to go after, a CHB who reads the play, a good mark with good disposal, fills a need and allows us to use our 3 picks in the first 2 rounds on pure mids in this years draft ,of which you can never have to many of. just an idea!

It really comes down to how we play this season if we look like a team on finals and have promise in the next two years then players will come.

we will be at 95% this year and pre-pay the cap to some of our stars to create more room for the 2013 season. We are primed to pounce on a big bodied key defender to complete our backline but I would prefer us target another midfielder that can spread.

A key defender will push the likes of newman and Ellis who can spread really well

Interesting to see on the Port board they have a thread from last year saying he constantly drops marks and has poor decision making. Seems to be a major whipping boy for them.

One player I'd love to try and get our hands on is Josh Caddy. Would be a very difficult task though given he's too young for free agency and we don't have alot to offer in a trade.

If we have a war chest to spend, I'd really like us to go for 1 big name player - given the Cloke history, I'm not that keen on him but in an ideal world if we could get someone like Goddard, it would be huge.

He would only be 27 by the start of next season (probably get 4-5 good years out of him) and could really add something as a senior leader of the club (not talking captain material but a mature body who can show our young players what it takes to be part of an elite team and be the focal point while young guns like Cotchin, Martin, Ellis and Conca develop.

He could galvanise the club and have a similar impact to Judd at the Blue baggers.

We need to target another genuine midfield gun, possibly a tall defender (to at least give competition at CHB) and a marking forward flanker (really wish we took a punt on Taylor Walker from the crows - he'd be a great addition up forward).

I would imagine we would look at someone that gives us real depth, character and skill wherever we need it and by who is available. There are always more mids kicking around than talls, so it probably will be a mid. I'd love a tall back, but they cost and teams will pay for anyone decent.
Free agency is really legalised poaching - nearly. So it has to either be someone a team is happy enough to lose, given their salaray situation. Or the team losing the player has to consider the compensation pick comparable to a trade they would make in any case. We will only pick someone that fits our needs (I would hope). That will probably mean there won't be much choice. Might be a case of several clubs fighting over not much choice. Will be interesting.
I am much more positive about FA given the last couple of trading years.

What are the rules with offering ridiculous amounts of money to players who we know will not be let go by clubs just to stuff their salary caps because they are forced to match the offer? If they accept our offer can we then just decline it? haha

I am surprised that he has not been mentioned yet and he could be hard to get but Brent Stanton from the Bombers is out of contract this year. He would be a perfect fit in our puzzle. Big bodied mid who runs all day and can find the ball.

He is a restricted free agent and the Bombers might consider letting him go if they want to chase Caddy.

I wonder if we will go hard for anyone in the end. We have done well in trading for the leftover type players - Ivan, Houli, Grigg
The age of free agents is at the top end of what we want. In 2-3 years that age group and experience would be a perfect fit. I would be very happy of the club let others get into a feeding frenzy and traded again for a very good value 20-22 year old already in the system.
