Rules Free kicks and interpretation

The most consistent issue I have is seeing Domsy and HT get done for holding and them watch Hawkins get mugged at the other end and HE is the one called for the free....

Just be consistent. Call them all or not, not 1/2 and 1/2.

Go Catters

And STOP GUESSING!
The "high" tackle against Taylor round 1, the worst decision of the year so far in the Carlton game where a player flung his head back like he was taken high, yet wasn't close, and the umpire called a free!
Stop guessing you morons! Unless you SEE the contact do not presume it is there!
I know human nature is human nature but these guys are getting paid for this, we don't expect them to be perfect because they are so far from it it is literally impossible but we DO expect them to only call what they see, and not what may have happened.

Funny that the media is picking up on Bloekhurst, yet missing Gunstan's.

Hawkins makes it hard for himself as he is the one that often seeks contact, and because he then doesn't look to escape from his man there is very little obvious evidence to see he is being clearly held.

The key position forwards who get those free kicks are those that are constantly on the move or in the air because any offence is obvious.

Its also that due to his physicality, often he pushes off harder than the defender and gets done with the ol' double move....

If he went for the footy instead of the man he'd do so much better.

Most supporters from every team reckon they get a harsh run with the umpires most of the time.

Think about that for a while and figure out what do you reckon could actually be the explanation.
Easy.

Opposition supporters are full of s**t and we actually do get a harsh run with the umpires most of the time.

That seems a very simplistic way of looking at it. Could you please explain why the Mumford Duncan hit was not even mentioned in the MRP report? Obviously that tackle is now the gold standard for all teams..just using your logic.
Or, Bartel being carried off due to a Good Bloke Hodge knee to the head. Or Steve Johnson being flattened (head contact) at the start of an Adelaide game, and the MRP buying a bs excuse. Or Mitchell punching Selwood in the face. Or Zac Dawson jumping as recklessly as a player can into Selwood's head. And the list goes on.

And then there is the other list: Selwood getting suspended because after he was lined up by his brother while playing the ball, and Joel pushes him back in annoyance. Swans player not looking where he is going and nearly knocks over SJ. SJ sees him last second, braces and knocks over Swans player. SJ realizes what happened and gives Swans player hand up while giving him a semi good natured earful. SJ reported to mrp because Swans player "could have been" injured and SJ had no business giving him a hand up (seriously happened). Enright and Chapman suspended during finals series for relatively minor incidents. Incidents that you never see players get rubbed out for in finals. And the list could go on.

Stats thus far this year show Geelong to be the worst in the comp.
Comfortably.
Of course an example of just 2 games doesn't really help, and if you take away Hawkins dumb frees against we are probably all square, but still Geelong is clearly the hardest hit by the umpires.
But doesn't mean that there is any bias from the umpires against Geelong, which some people are alleging.

Dixon last night got 2 free kicks in front of goal in the first quarter for extremely soft stuff because he was leading. Arm on the back, hand over the shoulder, chop of the arms etc. If Hawkins starts to move more he's going to kick 2-3 goals a game directly from soft free kicks. When you wrestle the defender is more than happy to stay grappling and just let the ball hit the deck, and the umpire will declare both are holding, play on. In Hawkin's case, the last big push to get them off him is causing him to give free kicks away.

Just watching Sydney GWS game....Mumford tackles Tippett. ..great tackle...replay show Tippett was hit in the head by Mumford....it was in front of goal...

If he led for the footy and jumped at it he'd be close to unstoppable.

I thought that the Brisbane forwards moved a lot more than our own. Ours seem to have cement legs or just want the ball to be dropped on top of their head. Certainly, no one wants to lead.

Anyone think there was some inconsistent umpiring in the Lions game?
The umpiring was laughable....borderline lost control in the last quarter......yea...batshit insane is about right.
You could see Scott was amazed at some decisions. What can Geelong do about this...it is not in their control. I hope Geelong is talking to the afl about it. Send the letter with 50 please explain this decision question. Are teams getting the same group of umps or are they rotating?

It was infuriating. For both teams. You just had to watch in bemusement and hope they balanced it out in the right areas. A closer game and it would have been an absolute joke.

Not the umpires fault necessarily. It is this need to conduct the game like they are an orchestra. I'd love a stat for how many goals start from a free kick vs genuine play. It is probably better than its ever been, but bloody hell it feels random.
