Bullshit.

Pell was facing two distinct sets of charges, which would go before two different juries. What if the second trial was jeopardised because of the breaches to the suppression order? It's well established thinking that potential jurors in a later trial might be highly prejudiced by knowledge of a previous conviction.

Pell was found guilty in the first trial but might get off on appeal - so the second trial could have been crucial.

I'm sure the dozens of publishers, editors, broadcasters, reporters and subeditors who have been 'persecuted' by being issued with show-cause notices
accusing them of potentially interfering with the administration of justice and scandalising the court breached the suppression order in the public interest.

They don’t mean that it would be a crime in itself, but a factor that would bring a harsher sentence to an existing crime. That’s it.
