Well hopefully it changes next year. I am sure JL has tried to address it. But yeah you would think 4 years in our players would have familiarity with kicking at goal at the ground.

West coast have kicked the same amount of behinds but have kicked 200 more goals so there is a big discrepancy there.

Do WC train there more than us?

I agree that blocking in a ruck contest is usually a raffle, 90% of the time even the rucks don't know who will get the free.

But when umpires see this they usually pay the free kick.

Good vision
Thanks for the clarity
The first one is there
The second one Hodor is just using Nank as a ladder 😆

On both occasions Nank ran past the ball - straight into Sean - before trying to contest the ruck. There was an argument both times that a blocking call should've been made.

I think the real elephant in the room is how we seem to have fair few of these inspirational, out of the blue team lifting wins when one N. Fyfe is out of action.
The rest of the team simply rising the occasion or something more?

I'm starting to think he needs to play forward just so the young boys, including Mundy can play on ball all the time...having said that Richmond' midfield isn't great

But Darcy, Serong, Cerra and and Andy with young Dave as the rotation is pretty good. Lloyd doesn't hurt us too much either because he's string in the ground ball contest.

So perhaps Nathan spends his summer with a kicking coach and becomes the third or fourth tall we need and the forward 50 stoppage specialist

I don't disagree, but I think we've kicked that idea around during pre season for the past couple of years.

The coaching group needs to sit down with Nat and commit whole heartedly to the concept.

It makes us a lot less predictable
In any team, when players as hugely influential as Fyfe go out there generally is a bit of a collective lift as players step up to meet the void and you get more of a collective reliance over individual. This can be a little harder to maintain as weeks go by, how much it is sustained though can depend on how tight the team is and the calibre of the second tier.

Anyone who has done a bit of running knows it's pretty bad for the first five minutes, then doesn't get worse at the same rate, then starts getting you again.
Having a shot on goal from 40m in has almost 0 to do with fitness. It's about technique and confidence. I get that 40+out that tired legs will come into play.
At training on Tuesday last week I kicked one from 35 on the boundary and then completely shanked one trying to do the same from 50. Because my technique is crap. A good routine and technique enables a player to focus on what needs to be done. Of course an exhausted player will have more misses, but a player with good technique, like Mundy, will kick goals all day.

Have you ever run a beep test so hard that you forgot how to count?

When I'm talking about fatigue, I'm not just speaking of sore heavy legs.

The trouble is that his misses set the tone for the other goal kickers. His inaccuracy obviously casts such a pall over everyone. We’d need a skills coach like a Lecras to work with him one on one in the preseason.

Agreed, he says he's not a great forward but would leave no stone unturned to become one in the twilight of his career. It'll protect his body (maybe he could drop a few kilos as the modern forwards tend to do once they hit 30) and putting aside his height and leap, he will be near unstoppable when the ball hits the ground. He can then go jnto the midfield for bursts to mess with opposition structures.

Let's get back to that James Hird comparison that was so commonly used for him.

See, I think we're miles off from that level. We can't score when we're not fatigued. Our players need to be be taught and coached to develop a goal kicking routine that is effective, repeatable and simple. Think of Fyfe, he has no idea by any measure. Tabs has improved. But they (Forwards) need to know how to kick a set shot <40m, 70% of the time. Kicking under duress is something to test your routine.
