Fremantle: 2014 Season Preview

Hawthorn and Sydney games are definitely winnable - hmmmm???

I think that have taken the attitude that Hawthorn losing Buddy won't matter (basically because they weaned off him over the past two seasons) and that Sydney will be a lot better with him (especially with Tippett (for a full season) and a fit Goodes coming back into the side. What it doesn't take into account is that having Pav and Sandi back in the side for most of the season (hopefully) and the possible inclusions of Gumbleton and Sylvia will improve us as well. Still, I think they have been conservative which is ok. Most people would back Sydney in Sydney and Hawthorn have had the wood over us in the past few years.

I predict 5-0 after 5 rounds like Hawks did 2013 against a tough draw and i always predict conservatively.

Also, Fyfe texted me and said he has decided he doesn't like losing and will mark heaven and clear earth to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Seriously, the Hawks are going to unfurl the 2013 Premiership flag at the 'G, in the game against us. If that doesn't get the guys pumped up, then I don't know what will.

and...

Recently we've played pretty well against Sydney in Sydney - I think Buddy and Tippet will be still learing. Neither are a given, but we've got a good chance of winning both.

I'm more concerned about losing to Collingwood.

The Hawks game is the most fascinating - at least it is not in Tasmania. I think we will beat Sydney - the oval has been lengthened, so it isn't as unique as it used to be.

I think the 4-1 start for the Eagles is a little over zealous :P if they are ahead of us at any time this season it will be devastating!

But seriously, I picked the budgies to finish 16th, I hope that comes true.

Predicted win-loss first five rounds.

FREMANTLE
Collingwood (ES), Gold Coast (PS), Hawthorn (MCG), Essendon (PS), Sydney (SCG)
Prediction: 3-2
The 2013 runner-up doesn't get it easy but the Dockers should take care of Gold Coast and Essendon at home (barring a repeat of last year's last-minute miracle). An away win in the season-opener against Collingwood would set the foundations for another flag challenge.

what a bunch of bullocks, all are winnable with the team barring any nigles and injuries we showed the hawks if we are on song or kick straight we can beat them. Only scary one is swans at SCG which is winnable !!!

Im thinking more linke 4-1 or 5-0

Both are possible. So is 2-3 if we are not switched on. Collingwood, and Essendon are no certainties. although based on last year we should beat them and Gold Coast are an unknown.
From the reporters point of view the games against us are winnable for Sydney and Hawthorn as well so it sounds like they just went with home ground advantage. Most people would have chosen that way for WC and Adelaide last year as well and we know how that turned out.

Last year, we would have thought ourselves well placed to knock off Essendon at Subiaco early in the season. For some unknown reason, Essendon finished the game off much stronger than us and rolled us - I wonder what other clubs have been shopping on Ebay during the off season for those "vitamins" to give them a bit of extra zip ????

Essendon have always beat Ross Lyon coached teams since 2009 (which is 5 years ago now). They seem to have the wood over him! They also play really well at the start of the season. No certainty at all

We always seem to get ASADAdon early in the year before they implode. I think I want to win that game this year more than any other game, including the GF replay. That killed me losing to them last year in the circumstances we did.

Cheers DonkeyKong21 a good appraisal of what went on and why;respectful acknowledgement of Jayden's bad luck as well.
I don't reckon there'll be a lot of cotton wool for Gumby though. In yesterday's presser Lyon said simply that "he's a really hard worker, hasn't missed one training session and is working hard to win a spot".I don't think he'd be at Fremantle if we thought he still had injury worries.

I tip Scott Gumbleton to be the big revelation this year.
