Injury Fremantle 2020 Injury Thread

May as well start this thread up for another year

Fremantle defender Alex Pearce is scheduled to undergo surgery on his left ankle.
Pearce suffered a season-ending ankle injury in round 11 against Collingwood at the MCG.
The 24-year-old consulted a surgeon in Melbourne on Wednesday.
General manager of football Peter Bell said the specialist’s advice was that Pearce undergo a minor procedure on his ankle to assist with the final stage of the fracture healing.
“Alex will have a minor procedure on his left ankle, and we are hopeful that he will return to football training in late February before the Marsh Community Series gets underway,” Bell said.

Dixon's in a moon boot as well isn't he?

Hopefully that'll fix the issue. Not happy to see one of our key players have an interrupted start to preseason though.

Not picking Naughton coming back to haunt us. ;)
More like an unbalanced list at the time, I liked Naughton too, but the midfield holes needed fixing.
We have Watson, O Reilly, Tabs, Cox, so we have some depth.
We were getting burnt on turnovers, rebound footy not much a FB can do against that.

At the time our key defenders consisted of Hamling , Pearce and Logue.
Pearce was an injury waiting to happen and Logue more a tall third defender.
Mids are a dime a dozen.
Like I said at the time good keys are gold.
It's water under the bridge now but it's burnt into my soul that Naughton was right under our nose and we ignored him.

A minor procedure that will see him away from training for almost 3 months? So another year that Pearce won't play out in full. He's nearly 25 now - it won't be long before we are talking about him as a 'Could have been' if he doesn't get some good luck soon.
The club desperately needs a good injury year, hopefully this years thread is the shortest it's ever been.

Key position durability is a concern, with Hogan, Tabs, Dixon, and Pearce?
Others on a minor scale, sure its the nature of the beast, you just wonder if Freo's running programs are more suited to mids/flankers?

At least this is being done now but I agree a pattern that is concerning.

Looking back to early 2017 in his recovery from 2016 injury. He suffered a repeat fracture when running in the rehab group on Fri 20/01/2017. He failed to get himself available until very late in the season at which time they placed him in cotton wool to get a near full pre-season.

There were pictures last week of him working away in the sandpit. Let’s hope that he has been undergoing routine scans which has picked up a bit of an issue very early and this is the best course of action to have this procedure to assist the “final stages of his fracture healing”.

Best case they say is 12 weeks recovery (which is pretty normal for weight bearing limb like the foot). Then a likely further 8-weeks getting necessary conditioning done, to be ready late April/ early May.

If Chad Pearson has a good start to 2020 with South Fremantle then maybe a good option for the mid-season (end of round 10 draft).

After a pretty positive off-season thus far, this news is utterly soul destroying.

To have a player who is a leader, a KPP, a player in a position with little depth in the squad, and who is a potential AA suffering this type of recurring injury is horrible news.

If the footy gods can't even the good luck/bad luck ledger here, they never will and the temptation to join a remote Tibetan monastery and live out my days in silence, will be immense!

Wouldn’t be surprised to see A Pearce become an inaugural member of Tassies first team in a few years.

He’s a talented, yet injury proned player who would jump at a huge package from his home state.

* me...hearing about the injury was enough, but if this is even a remote possibility, it may push me over the edge!

Yep, I said the same a while back. Now that the push for Tassie has gained some momentum, I would expect Pearce and possibly Dixon to want to be part of that history making team (inj and laziness aside, respectively). Next draft we should be looking to draft in a KPD, or have a chat to Naughton before he loves Melbourne too much.

Luckily Sandi and Johnno are back out on the track. Both should be available for the mid season draft. Sandi to replace Sean when he breaks down by R11 and Johnno to replace Alex when he hasn’t made it onto the ground by R 11.:(:(
