My source re Hamling has said there are two scenarios - wait 8-10 weeks and he may not require surgery. If he does require surgery he will only get it in October, would make him a tentative/unlikely start for round 1.

The former would see him back on track well before preseason.

Don't know any more ins and outs other than that.
Thanks StingBitten, your source has been pretty spot on so far. Has anything been mentioned in regards to his mobility after going through all this & is there any risk of the injury ending his career?

Nothing career ending. He's maintained that the club medicos bungled things with him a bit but that COVID has been more of the stressor in not getting the surgery attended to. He's more annoyed in needing to even travel to Melbourne rather than have this sorted in Perth - his short career at the Bulldogs revealed a much superior medical system and treating specialists.

I think he's satisfied where things are at - he will be back sooner rather than later.

Sounds like positive news for Hamling. I just wanna see him, Pearce, Ryan and all the others back out there in our defence again.

I think someone mentioned Acres calf again during the week from a radio interview?
suffered a calf strain at some point, didn’t play v Carlton in the scratch match on the weekend, set to return to full training this week (source: The West’s write up of JLs presser on Friday)

That's a fairly common scenario for injuries. Surgery is actually a last resort - there's quite serious risks associated with even minor surgery.

No doctor would advocate surgery as a first resort (if there's a chance of healing without surgery)

Cutters usually want to operate to fix something though, it's what they do. Surgeons and athletes would probably get on really well outside of work, very confident in their own ability to fix the whole world via their trade - because they have to be.

Its a wonder why teams like Geelong, Brisbane, Port and WC (up to a week ago) have been flying with the low number of quality players missing.

This is what I meant the other week when someone posted that tweet about Freo never averaging less than 5 players on the injury list in a season as if it was some damning stat in and of itself. I don't follow other teams' injuries much but if that is anything to go by it would be pretty rare to average under 5.

much of the frustration comes from the names on the list. Ours always seems to involve a good portion of our best talls and/or a key mid or two.
Richmond for example have Prestia from their most important players out for a period. West Coast have 3 from their best 22 and two of those just made the list. If we had 20 or 21 of our best 22 available even if we had 5-10 on the injury list, I for one wouldn't be complaining.

I don't know where whoever posted that got the stat from but it sounds more like it'd be 'average B22 players'. In that case under 5 would be above average and we've clearly been over it this year and expect most the past few years.
