For every story of " my brother had an infected bone graft/joint and it was fine" someone could counter with a story of "my brother had an infected bone graft/ joint and it hasn't recovered".
Thinking at this early stage that he'll definitely be fine is as stupid as thinking he'll definitely never play again. All outcomes are possible.
Well thats just wrong considering Fyfe has already said they will take him off the PICC in a couple of days

but okay, fall for the sensationalism headlines

Taking a PICC line out is miles away from full recovery. They have apparently said he has months more of oral antibiotics just to clear the infection, and God knows what will happen if he graft is buggered.

Let's hope so, but your certainty is baseless

As is stating that his career may be over like it’s a 50/50 chance.

It’s an injury - most injuries can be recovered from. There is a few exceptions are guys like Pitt who would’ve literally put his life in danger if he kept playing. Even guys like Morabito, Bennell etc. recovered from their injuries, even if they would usually do the same injury shortly afterwards.

This board is so negative about injuries that every time one of our players gets a LTI, it’s a 50/50 of being career ending. We’ve been screwed by injuries as we’ve had multiple times our fair of blokes that can’t stay on the park. I don’t get assuming it’ll be the absolute worst every single time, especially for players who have shown they can play most of a season or more in the past.

Until we hear he has to go back in to surgery to physically have the effect part scooped out, we should assume he'll be fine.
I’m sure Peter Alessandro identified an issue when he did the revision surgery. That involved a clean-up and repair.

Something must have alerted him to undertake further testing. Reading up on that type of bacterial infection it is initially skin and acne related and as a complication from shoulder surgery it can be very difficult to diagnose. Fyfe spoke very highly of Peter and his diligence to identify the issue.

For me I’m pleased it was picked up and he has come through his 2 weeks stint of IV treatment. He has a long road ahead but the infectious specialist is very pleased with his recovery and mentioned that from a shoulder recovery Fyfe has progressed to Gentle mobilisation exercises.

Can’t tell difference between debut 2010 Fyfe or 12th season veteran Fyfe.

He looks like he has dropped some weight which is possibly a by product of the lack of training he has been able to do, i genuinely think he will be far better off long term being 5kgs lighter so i hope some thought is given to that.

Anyone able to post this article:
This was posted elsewhere;

David Mundy’s 19th season at Fremantle may face a delayed start after a pre-Christmas training injury threw a massive spanner in his 2022 preparations.

The West Australian understands the 36-year-old sustained a significant ankle injury in the Dockers’ final training session of the year last week, limping off the track at Cockburn.

There are fears Mundy will be sidelined for at least two months.

Mundy is coming off another brilliant season where he led Fremantle’s Brownlow Medal votes, finished second in the club’s Doig Medal fairest-and-best award behind ruckman Sean Darcy, and broke long-term teammate Matthew Pavlich’s record 353 games for the Dockers.

The midfield veteran has been required to use crutches and is believed to be in doubt for the start of the season.

It’s not the first piece of off-season bad luck Mundy has suffered, after breaking his leg in a freak bicycle accident.

On that occasion, the classy midfielder sustained a fibular fracture above his ankle after his foot slipped off the bike’s pedal when he was playing with his children.

Other than Mundy’s setback, Fremantle have enjoyed a relatively trouble-free pre-season with no players yet to be ruled out for their season opener against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on March 20.

Injury-cursed key defenders Joel Hamling and Alex Pearce are on track to play round one in an encouraging sign after several frustrating years for both.

That reads like the media has no clue but he's in a moon boot so they are assuming worst case scenario.

It's really common for low grade ankles to be in a moon boot during the acute stage.

If he's out for 8 weeks he's still right for round 1 in any case.

Not if he can’t train properly for those eight weeks
