Excellent poach by Freo, and will be greatly missed by Melbourne. Everything you read about Cowan is highly positive.

The poaching wars have started! The new teams have to be settled by when exactly? They start training at their respective clubs in November.

Looks like theres a draft of some kind in October.

I hope the delay in announcing this from the club is just so we can make a big deal about it. What a pickup if it's true!

I feel a bit bad for Melbourne because she's done so much for us, but how amazing for her that she now has the opportunity to be a coach full time
Big part of it was her family by all reports. Kids are in school in Perth and her partner gets paid very very well with his job too.

FREMANTLE is considering placing Michelle Cowan in a role within the men’s football department.

Ross Lyon confirmed he met with Cowan — the women’s coach in waiting — on Wednesday, along with football operations boss Chris Bond.

The trio discussed Cowan’s role at Melbourne, where she not only coached the women’s team, but was a permanent member of the men’s footy department. Simon Goodwin, in particular, was responsible for mentoring the pioneering Cowan

Reading that article and listening to the presser, I got the impression that Lyon thinks that Cowan will have her plate full setting the team up in the next year or two.
