So much this! And not just last night.

He's our best leading forward by a mile and the amount of times players are too slow or hesitant to hit him up does my head in (and no doubt Jye's too).

He's making the midfielders job easy, but they're making it hard for him.
Spot on about Amiss. It was a travesty watching him making a lead only to be ignored and the ball kicked to a pack where we lost it.

Longmuir needs to play that footage on a loop and tell the players that when they see one of our forwards making a lead with separation from his opponent, kick it to him for Gods sake.

How much would Amiss be wanting the Freo midfield to sit down and watch the tape of all the goals Essendon got? Or even better, the tape of all their inside 50 marks. They were mostly (couple of exceptions) good kicks rather than great contested marks.

"See! See! That's how it's supposed to work! I lead away from the other blokes and you put it in front of me ... Even playing their B team, Essendon did it last night."

In reflection of the last 5 games, I think last was the first one in that stints where the bottom 5 "held us back" but the superstars carried anyway. I think some guys really coming on and lifting has been a big reason for this streak so not too concerned yet

Great time to have some good players in Peel, and putting pressure on the 22.

Just hope we don't rush them back and set them up for failure. I feel Fyfe and Darcy could have used one more game in the WAFL.

Draper seems to have gone backwards, but I think with a lot of these young players it’s mental ( Amiss , Johno , Reid)and they will have quiet patches .
I feel like he will come good again, hes got what it takes
He’s still in the very early days of his career with a lot to learn. I noticed Luke and Brennan directing him to various players and positions quite a bit last night.

We have to remember that even Alex took years to become the brilliant defender that he is today.

Had my brother there with me last night. He’s a bombers fan so he was wondering why I as going apeshit at different times.

He said, you’re up by 40 what are you complaining about.

The issue is we play this absolute garbage for large parts against the likes of North and Essendon, and gives us no confidence we have any chance to compete against the Geelong’s and Collingwood’s when the pointy end comes.

That five minutes from a Banfield that costs two goals, Draper trailing Caddy in to a contest yet again, Sharp squibbing it, Freddy dropping the ball short of the Amiss lead.

Even Clark ****ed a kick and then stood and pointed like it wasn’t his fault and watched as the ball came back.

Good teams punish you for that shit.

Also I’d like to see the four quarter effort we put up against GWS and GC at Optus for a change

I am not Draper has the pace to go with Caddy. The commentators said Caddy went past Draper with speed, to get to the drop off the ball.

Caddy is a tough match up, but I do wonder what Draper's best position is. Is it fullback, centre half back or 3rd tall defender.

Caddy is a serious talent and has serious wheels. That one handed pick up on the lead without pausing after a shank but low and fast i50 kick from Gresham was a thing of beauty. Draper got beaten but wasn’t as bad as people are saying. Those occasions where Caddy got separation from Draper was on the lead. I think Draper reacted a bit slow on those occasions. Very good learning curve for him.

There were occasions where Draper was very good especially once the ball hit the ground. A couple of instances near the boundary where he had a win comes to mind.

As compared to previous two weeks Draper was much better against Essendon. He won’t get dropped after that effort. Posters thinking OMac would have done better on Caddy are dreaming. I have memories of him basically watching Tilthorpe in 2nd gear get separation on him.

Zero free kicks against was also a positive.

The intangible part of what Fyfe brings is leadership and coaching to a young and exuberant side. That can't be measured or easily seen. Come finals I would be absolutely fine having him as the sub as it's like having an additional coach on the bench. We need to give him some full games along the way to ensure he stays match fit in case of an early injury.

Some rough thoughts in no logical order...
  • Freddy gets caught in no mans land in our forward line. I would have put him in the square last night and let him lead at the ball (we probably wouldn't have honoured the lead but that's another issue).
  • Essendon were extremely poor and that score line makes it all sound better than it was. Our last kick into the F50 was as bad as I've seen all year. Pretty sure we had one mark inside 50 at half time and finished with 6. Against that defence, that's horrific...they had 13 btw.
  • As most have already said, out top 6 destroyed them and basically carried the team.
  • Fyfey is done. It's sad and some will deny it but he's not a best 23 player anymore.
  • Nev needs to hold his leads for another second. Plus, players like Ras and Johnno need to show a bit more urgency and get back from the mark quickly when taking a stop play kick from 50-80m out. This should allow some better connection when Amiss' lead comes.
  • I'm still in the pro Johnno/Ras camp and want to see them play more game as I think there's a heap more improvement there.
  • Murph makes me gush like a school girl at least once a game...I haven't been a fanboi like this for some time.
  • Watching Pat Voss run around for us would be soul destroying for Bomber fans.

NO ONE we have would have gone with Caddy last night , he’s like a young Charlie Curnow with a better leap or a young Aaron Naughton with a better kick and fwd craft

Tough match up for anyone really

Good player to watch

I thought leaving Draper on him for the bulk of the night was a good move. He’s going to have to be beating him in the future anyway so give him a look while we controlled the game.

That mark he took was great but not sure why he was all by himself with a 20m run at it. I think Chappy was his man at that contest.

I saw someone post during the game his overhyped.

I disagree last night was the first time i properly watched him and went WOW.

That kid going is to be special some of the one touch stuff for a big man was incredible.

Will be on a million plus a year by 2028.

Freddie has limitations which can be frustrating when he has a lot of tools, but ultimately I think he can be a decent cog in a great team.

We controlled that game off some fantastic kicking for goal and keeping them at arm's length the whole game, Essendon fought well but we had a few too many good moments unlike some previous games.

Having watched that game I'm still torn - what's the best position this year for Hayden Young.

Now, I love Voss but imagine if Walls had found a way to trade up for Caddy like he wanted...

Who would we have missed out on if he did I wonder
I'm pretty sure clubs were scrambling initially to get Curtin when he slid, including Essendon, who mightve even moved up to get Caddy after they missed Curtin (lucky miss maybe..).

Think we were out of the draft from the Jackson trade, and vaguely recall Walls' comments that we were keen to try get in (for same players), but nobody was prepared to trade out of the first round altogether? Can't win them all..

You can't have too many players that can rotate through the middle and into a secondary position.

Youngy can easily play mid-half forward-half back, depending upon match ups, rotations etc.

I actually like him up forward but only time will tell.

Nah,
You don't select players who are not up to it, push all the sentiment and other aside. If Fyfie wants to show leadership he should call time on his fabulous career.

I think there's a sub role for him but I want to see him at least hit every contest in 4th gear soon. He was a tick above walking contest to contest most of the game.

Im getting back on the JL train and this is a very arrogant thing to say but if he ever again picks more than 2 of Darcy (with Jackson playing), JOM, Fyfe and Ras in the same team im almost going to immediately completely write him off as having no idea. We will get absolutely annihilated on spread like we did in the last against North last week.
