Cornes has accepted he will have no influence. Already defends negative play:

"If I get five possessions it doesn't really matter, the main focus is to stop him.

Admits he's not up to Pavlich's league, has been losing sleep over it:

"He's beaten me a couple of times, I rate him with the best forwards going around, so I've been preparing for this for a while now.

He thinks Fremantle are tough and hard. It's all relative, so he must think Port are soft as marshmallows:

"I'm sure they'll go on with that, I think they rate themselves as pretty tough and hard," he said.

Admits team isn't as skillful with the footy as Fremantle and threatens to use dirty tactics to get the upperhand:

"They'll be thinking we've got a few guys under 20, if the coaches go that way. I'm sure they'll try to rough them up, but we've got some hard nuts who should be able to get back at them."

Not very confident, uses the word 'if':

"It's a real test to see where we're at, and if we could pull a win off, it would do wonders for the club and the supporters as well," he said.

Has little faith in team mates. Wonderful qualities for an acting captain:

"I went into this year a little worried about where we were at and the squad, because of how young we were."

Prediction: Fremantle by 10 goals.

I think what Cornes is saying is that Port have beat up Freo on a regular basis in the past, but now that Port has a relatively young team, Freo might want to exact some revenge. All he's saying is they are expecting it.

LOL Port fans think they have a chance :D
Of course we have a chance. It's round 1. As long as we field a team we have a chance. The odds are definately against us but there is no reason why we can't win.

And angry dragon. Seriously - don't you have anything better to do than twist the words of Cornes? What did you expect him to say?

These sorts of threads are pathetic.

you know admiting your team will struggle against a freo side expected to be in the top four, doesnt mean you are a bad supporter, just means your a realist. The dockers will thump port, and personally as a dockers fan i would take anything below a 30 point win to freo as a loss.

Better to stop him and do crap than Cornes do well but then again Pav gets 8 goals - Some of the best defenders dont get that much of the ball as they are stopping their opposition from getting it

Admits he's not up to Pavlich's league, has been losing sleep over it:

"He's beaten me a couple of times, I rate him with the best forwards going around, so I've been preparing for this for a while now.

Well Pav IS one of the best around

He thinks Fremantle are tough and hard. It's all relative, so he must think Port are soft as marshmallows:

"I'm sure they'll go on with that, I think they rate themselves as pretty tough and hard," he said.

Admits team isn't as skillful with the footy as Fremantle and threatens to use dirty tactics to get the upperhand:

Well Freo ARE a top 4 team this year based on last year, while Port are full of youngsters.

Not very confident, uses the word 'if':

"It's a real test to see where we're at, and if we could pull a win off, it would do wonders for the club and the supporters as well," he said.

Wants to be realistic - This is Freo at Subi after all

Has little faith in team mates. Wonderful qualities for an acting captain:

"I went into this year a little worried about where we were at and the squad, because of how young we were."

Of course, you neglected to add the next sentence where he states that he is now confident on how they are going as a team

Prediction: Fremantle by 10 goals.
Result - You lose and Freo still kick ass

Having Cornes on Pav would be the worst decision Williams could make, Cornes isn't a stopper, and trying to make him one will negate his influence.

Nah, Chad's done some top stopping jobs, he just gives us a lot more on the rebound. I think you're still right though, i'd rather Chaplin be given a chance to see how he goes.

Nope, just lacking in spirit.
