Watched the 2nd half late, honestly, could you ask for a better pre-season game?
  • Players we need most to go a level up (Erasmus, Reid, Jackson, Treacy, Johnson, Amiss) all looking good to great.
  • Some very pretty fast play
  • New guys in Cox, McVee (I dont understand what anyone is concerned with) and Murray.
  • Even understudies (thought Davies was fantastic) performing well.

Bring on Geelong

Johnson was ok but I agree with the rest

Liked Davies. Hardly noticed Draper (who only played a half). From this game I'd play him when Cox and/or Pearce don't get up for rd1. But McDonald was ok, so perhaps he is in on experience before him.

Young, Reid, Treacy so great. When Treacy plays like this as captan make him captain straight away.

Random observations:

Mcvees arms are so skinny he looks like a draftee.
My observation was he held good leg positioning but got out wrestled comfortably a couple of times lending to my comment on this thread about being a little weak up body/upper arm strength. He won’t be leading the Tricep dips, shoulder press or bench press.

Fremantle release after many of there PS training sessions a bunch of player photos. For a number of weeks there (leading up to the SOO game) there were multiple pictures of him with a square bandage over one of his arms. Like he had a procedure or drip of some sort. So not sure if he had had issue a few weeks back.

People asking if McVee is best 23 when in reality Chapman should be the player in question. Massively overrated player on this board

Alright C+ to B- player who offers minimal rebound, makes poor errors, has no awareness around him and constantly gets pinned for holding the ball every week. Hasn't really developed much and should be a better player than what he is by now.
I wish I didn't agree with you, but I was disappointed with Chapman.

I think he is in our best side, and i can see potential upside, but I'd love him knock some of the question marks down.

Chappy played how he always does, he atleast has the benefit of someone needing to kick him out of the team (like Worner did in the round 1 disaster game last year)

McVee hasn't done anything to earn the spot yet so there is more pressure there, I'm picking Chappy over McVee at this stage

TBH can see Worner leaping both of them anyway

I'm sure I won't agree with the round 1 team 100% when it comes out but as long as we win then IDC

Would love to know how Coops went at Peel (if he played), if Coops comes on a bit then McVee should be moving to the wing to secure a more attacking spot IMO, can also be the wingmen that slides back without a man to intercept, important player for some teams.

Half back is stunting his growth.

Should go wing or inside mid tbh.

I would like to make a joke about how USA’s Big Cox dominated around the ground but considering we’re busy starting WWIII, I will strike to a more neutral tone.

I thought he was very solid around the ground today and I’m glad my buddy will allow Darcy ample recovery time. I was shocked to see that Cox was #1 in hitouts to advantage in 2025. Didn’t know that.

Overall, our leaders and A grades stood up. I have no words for Ried. He’s incredible. Traecy dominated. Jye looked good. Great to have Hayden young back. He’s gonna do well up in the forward line this year.

Connection between mids and forwards was solid and when/if they can fire on all cylinders, they’ll be unstoppable.

I’m gonna shy away from negatives since all preseason games have them and it never means anything. Too bad we have to sit through the stupid round 0 before we get to play.

Bring on the cats. It’ll be a great measuring stick.

Inside mid ????

He’s completely lost ATM , zero awareness or peripheral and the composure he showed early on has disappeared

The game should be slowing down for him 5 yrs in not speeding up

A shot on the wing maybe so at least his brain freezes happen further from goal but no way is he RD1 B22 for mine , give him a month or 2 at Peel and hope he can find his mojo again

Before the old “ melting about pre-season “ crew wind up … he was pretty ordinary last year as well

Looking at the Facebook comments about who the crows were missing.....

Isn't that who we beat last season? Pretty sure you had most of them playing and we dominated for most of that game bar the last 10 to 15 minutes of the 4th.

Its a practice match and whinging about missing best 22 is sad. Who cares....

Be happy it was a great hitout for both sides and we're both going to be in finals again this year.

I was shocked at how positive David king was about us. Praised us all day. Would have been hard listening for crows supporters.
It was very strange wasn't it.

I do not think you can read too much into the performance of our defence—it was in shambles without Cox, Pearce, Ryan (even Worner). Chappy had a decent enough game trying to cover off talls that he shouldn't be playing on in the season proper. He was third man up at some crucial marking contests, got some rebound run.

He wanted to make it out the ground alive lol

He let it slip with Jackson though, everyone was praising him but he didn't like our use of him, 18 touches and 5 shots a goal was pretty good IMO

Reckon we might go the opposite with Chappy, small hints by JL in the presser, could end up being a psuedo tall defender

I'd be giving him clips of Nathan Murphy 2022/2023 and saying this is your eventual goal now (maybe some Luke Ryan 2020 in there too)

Reckon McVee long term is better suited to the wing role and Chap wont crack inside mid with his awareness and our players that we have signed long term. (Bray, Serong, Young, Jackson, Bolton, Reid, Ras + Hopefully Johnno signs on soon enough)
