I was shocked at how positive David king was about us. Praised us all day. Would have been hard listening for crows supporters.
While the Crowd had some key players out, so did we, however don't forget Crowd finished the home and away season on top of the ladder so they aren't a shabby team.

Yes it was a preseason warm up but some good takeaways.

I left a few minutes early and missed that insufficient intent call on Johnson.

Jesus Christ that was a shocker.
He should’ve handballed to a teammate even though he was out.

I reckon the umps took the fact that he (effectively) made the OOB call himself as a sign that he never intended to keep it in play. Fire off the disposal even if you think it’s out and you’re not giving the umps any reason to doubt your intent to keep it in play.

I thought he was acting, and it was intentional. Last year they allowed it, I don't mind them tightening up that rule as long as it is consistent

It's just pre season so can't get too carried away but it looks like our floor has been raised. Handful of players who were still finding their feet at the level are looking like genuine AFL players who can contribute at a high level. And if Bruce is already a potential gun mid, well that will unlock everything. He will go past Andy and Caleb purely because of how damaging he is and having AB and Serong as your 3rd and 4th best mids is scary good.

Watching the game today knowing the result, and having seen all the opinions here:

Pressure excellent all over the field. At the3qt our rating was 196.
Overall cohesion was very good.
Not much standing at half back waiting for something to happen.
I know there was a big bench and no rotation cap, but it was great to see so many faces rotating on ball, and not losing anything.
Crows struggled to transition and we made them go wide, but seemed to get a lot of shots per entry.

Serong excellent in tight and disposals composed, and looked to move it forwards by hand.
Davies more physically assertive than I have seen him.
Jackson looking ominous, not in terms of touches, but in terms of impact. Dare I say, his marking from midfield is something we haven’t seen since prime Fyfe. It created chaos for crows match ups.
Liked Walkers pace and sense of urgency in the backline.
Murray looks a find, composed, uses his pace, kicking was good and he was tough.

Boltons decision making and field kicking was not good bursting out of the midfield, not the player we want to make the inside 50 kick.

I don't share the same excitement from that game. Crowd tired late and only let us in because of some very wind assisted goal kicking

We looked very shaky on the last line especially on the ground, and yeh it'll improve but the ones coming in will be very rusty so hopefully we can carry them til they find touch

We again struggled against kick-mark offence. Swans pulled us apart with it and Brizzy took it to a new level. At times crows applied it with good effect

I'm not sold on Jackson as a mid... the guy hasn't played there at all in his career, what makes you think he can magically learn enough skills in an off season to keep someone out who has learnt the craft their whole career. I don't mind a few mins here and there, but stay in your lane

Still frustrated with Bolton, tries doing too much. Can see him becoming a Walter type whipping boy when he went thru his funk, just play your role, show some magic but chill

Cox a big plus, happy when we recruited him and so far it's justified

Meh on Mcvee so far, but it'll come

very happy we've kept Raz, looking like a player

I find this bit a bit silly. Yes we benefited from the wind in Q4 but so did Adelaide in Q3 when they made their run. If you look at just the scores made against the wind, Freo still win fairly comfortably.

Not really lucky or anything when there is a consistent wind all day. Adelaide either chose to kick with the wind first or were at least aware we would have the wind last.

No.

Erasmus and Johnson have overtaken him

He's ahead of NOD, Sharp and Whan - so yes unless we restructure someone like Chapman up the ground.

Erasmus and Johnson are already in the side so hopefully someone else steps up by the end of the year. Not sure nod and sharp are it.

I did notice when nod came out at 1/4 time and 3/4 time to warm up he had a really odd gait, limping almost. Is he always like that?

I thought it was funny how many in the crowd were getting involved like the result mattered. It's nice to win, sure, but the score is literally irrelevant.

What can be taken out of it is set plays, individual performances, and signs of depth. It's a resounding win on all counts.

Reid getting tagged and picking up 30, Treacy looking like a freight train, Erasmus racking it up, Amiss getting separation and kicking straight, improved depth with M Cox and Davies, it goes on. So much more positives then negatives. Best of all, seems we have gotten through without injury. We did all this missing our key backs, who are two of our most important players.

I can't believe that we might be in a situation where Caleb Serong doesn't get tagged because Reid is getting tagged.

Its really nice to hear my buddy Raz had a good game...

Seems my buddy influence is working!

My biggest takeaway from today was most of our players want to get the ball in Reid’s hands as much as possible, if anything, JL’s comments are as much to distract/disguise from oppo scouts that our new game plan revolves around Reid and Young as anything else, some people just cheery pick to re-enforce their biases.
Speaking of confirmation bias, my other two take aways were: Johnson is better than Ras and Walker is better than Worner. This has been my belief for some time, didn’t want to mention it, but it seems to be the consensus after today’s game.
Might need to rethink that belief there buddy ,
Coz it sure as shit AINT the consensus!

Cox and Ras very impressive. So many hit outs to advantage for Cox, would think Darcy has to force is way in through form and fitness. Cox in front after today. Ras 102 points rating. If it’s Johnson v Erasmus for a spot then Ras won the day easily.
Raz>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>jonno

Now accepting grovelling apologies from all the heathens of raz haters(you campaigners know who u are 😉)

I’ll be here all day people …..

I wish I didn't agree with you, but I was disappointed with Chapman.

I think he is in our best side, and i can see potential upside, but I'd love him knock some of the question marks down.
I think he suffered, along with the rest of defence from a lack of synergy. 3 seniors out is a lot of change. More time in the a-team for McVee, Walker, Davies etc and the whole defence looks better.

People asking if McVee is best 23 when in reality Chapman should be the player in question. Massively overrated player on this board

Alright C+ to B- player who offers minimal rebound, makes poor errors, has no awareness around him and constantly gets pinned for holding the ball every week. Hasn't really developed much and should be a better player than what he is by now.
Could just be a bad game - few in the team working with him daily throughout the preseason agree with you…

Before I watched yesterdays game I saw some of this commentary, so watched him closely, and didn’t see the criticism as being right.

He was very much focussed on defense over rebound, and competed well on the ground and in the air imo. Was ok going the other way without being a big driver.

I think some people expect Chappy to be a superstar, but it isn’t going to happen. He will be a reliable and disciplined defender. And that’s fine.

I would like to make a joke about how USA’s Big Cox dominated around the ground but considering we’re busy starting WWIII, I will strike to a more neutral tone.

I thought he was very solid around the ground today and I’m glad my buddy will allow Darcy ample recovery time. I was shocked to see that Cox was #1 in hitouts to advantage in 2025. Didn’t know that.

Overall, our leaders and A grades stood up. I have no words for Ried. He’s incredible. Traecy dominated. Jye looked good. Great to have Hayden young back. He’s gonna do well up in the forward line this year.

Connection between mids and forwards was solid and when/if they can fire on all cylinders, they’ll be unstoppable.

I’m gonna shy away from negatives since all preseason games have them and it never means anything. Too bad we have to sit through the stupid round 0 before we get to play.

Bring on the cats. It’ll be a great measuring stick.
It'll be just our luck that WWIII strikes in July when we're 18-0 with no injuries
