**** me Caleb Serong is a well spoken lad

Ahhhh mr “irreplaceable “

Hey Taylor can you get us up some of those juicy Jeremy sharp km run numbers ? And tell us again how it’s the glue holding our entire team and gameplan together?

Cheers :)

I thought the correlation was between Sharp NOT getting the ball and us winning. We avoid the corridor, kick through him, the more we do the less we win.

Wow
Imagine what would be possible if he could actually play football

As long as he still helps to bottle them up for a long kick down the line, then good. Didn't think he would be doing much of that from the goal square when I saw him there.

The rotations came on heavy in the second half. I think we were carrying heavy legs.

His team mates were avoiding kicking it to him , they know .

Think of Stephen and Bradley Hill when comparing how good wings should play

Are we going to get to 100 points by kicking seven straight points after kicking three in three quarters?

You are making excuses for the least contributing player in our b22. The best teams in the comp don't carry wingers to maintain structure. Sharp is soft, he doesn't get many disposals but butchers the ball when he does.

I'm slowly coming to the realisation that Sharpe is an athlete - not really an AFL footballer. Probably a bit like a James walker type. If you are defending him then ask yourself this......given his form this year, would he honestly get picked to play wing every week in other teams?
The second question is this - if we were to delist him, would any other teams pick him up?

Brad Hill cost St Kilda the better part of a million bucks a year back when that was obscene money, he's at least twice the player of Sharp and would cost three times as much for a role that the team plays poorly if we are utilising regularly.

I don't want to pay a big chunk of the salary cap for a player to run mostly covering space and not be kicked too, not in that current way that fat side winger plays. If we change our ball movement plan, our best plan, from being down the guts to out by the far boundary line then yeah we need a better ball user there, without question.

But I don't think anyone actually wants the team kicking the ball wide so much, they want them looking corridor and ignoring the player wider.

So if that is going to continue, we should be paying as little as possible for a guy who can cover ground as much as possible. Not everyone can be the superstars or even good, we just can't afford that.

If Whan is playing next year, and NOD is fit and in form I think Sharp is in a lot of trouble.

I think he is a very good depth player, but I don't think he should be best 22 in a top 4 side.

Those two may be able to rotate through that role, for sure, and both would be relatively cheap (Obviously Whan the most so) but I don't think Whan will have the running ability in him for a few preseasons and then the question is - why do we want to play talented stoppage players in a role that they shouldn't see much of the ball?

O'Driscoll is very handy at stoppage, Whan is a really good mark for his size. Both suit the skinny side wing role far more than the fat side wing role.

Jack Delean could play the fat side wing role, someone cheap who isn't quite there anywhere else.

Wonder if Nick Martin might be gettable?
Probably liked what he saw last night

He is signed until end of 2027. Would cost a fortune in trade and in cash to turn his head. Martin has the attitude that the WA clubs overlooked him, with WC literally having him under their nose at training, and Essendon gave him the chance so he repays them.

You can only fit 8 mids and rucks in the 22, maybe 9 if you play 1 less forward.

I just don't see a spot for Sharp.

Locked in best 22
Jackson, Serong, Brayshaw, Young , Bolton / Reid (50/50 forward mid), NOD

Fighting for the last 2 spots plus one as sub
Erasmus, Johnson, Whan, Sharp, JOM, Darcy

I would put Erasmus into Sharp's role, he has the aerobic capacity but is a better kick and contest player. It also keeps him in the team when the midfield squeeze comes. It's basically a given that if we are playing through that player then something has gone wrong with the game plan, so that player needs to actually use the 10 to 15 touches they're getting per game and not be a liability. Sharp is great at two things, running and knowing which space to fill. Everything else he is below average.

How well is Wagner going! Merrett is a ball magnet and had close to his quietest game of the year. Makes a huge difference having a quality defensive minded mid.
Wagner has that dog in him that i love. He is like Nick Suburban but he can kick and doesn't run head first into oppo players .

Jack is the interesting one, a definite delist three weeks ago but now seems to have really found his feet and making strides forward.
