Essendon played very well against Hawthorn for parts, but were smashed for a big chunk of it, and when it came down to it couldn't hold them off..
We just couldnt impact the scoreboard enough that game, which is going to happen from time to time as we have a 2nd year player and a defender turned forward leading the charge down there.

As for the game against hawthorn we came close if not beat hawthorn in most of the statistical categories, the only real losses came in hitouts (ryder injured) and clearances (gonna happen when you lose hitouts).

Having said that I still think Freo should be favorites based on this game being in perth, your 'outs' will hurt tho

Wow.

Everyone needs to get a serious grip here.

We are the Grand Finalists.

We are the team that restricted teams to 85 points in first two rounds (and now have that same full backline available, Ibbo excluded).

Three rounds is no form guide.

If anyone thinks that the boys will not be breathing fire this weekend, especially off 9 days rest needs to have a re-think. Plus the addition of Zac x2 will be useful from a personnel perspective, as well as them wanting to make a statement.

Reminder: response to Geelong loss last season; response to Richmond loss last season (flogging everyone in sight from then until end of season).

Essendon is good but have done nothing to earn favouritism in a match played in Perth.

Well considering we just played the same team a week apart and you blokes got your pants pulled down and we got within a kick and probably should have won, considering the Injuries to 3 or 4 key players for the dockers and the fact Essendon have beaten them the last two times at Subiaco, Surely that has got to have them pretty close to being favourites yeah?

Will be fascinated to watch this game.

What draws me to this game:
- 2 really good sides that will probably finish top 4
- watching how Essendon performs against a very defensively structured team (they struggled when we went defensive against them in the first half, but got a run on when we shifted to a more attackin style.
- want to see how Freo bounces back after a big loss
- want to see how another good side copes with Essendon's high possession game
- want to see if Freo are really vulnerable without the two mids, or if it was just an aberration

Also want to see Essendon lose.

Mayne and Walters are certain to miss and we are still without Barlow and Fyfe. It will be difficult to win this game, but not impossible. Surely Clarke, Sylvia and Pearce have to play.

Certain to miss?

You are, in all likelyhood correct, but isn't that a touch premature?

Or have I missed something?

Essendon would have beaten Hawthorn if the game had been reasonably adjudicated. Josh Gibson could have violated a nun in Hawthorns backline without giving away a free in that game. If we play like we did against the Hawks, we'll receive a shellacking of biblical proportions. I'd back us to not perform that poorly again though, so it should be a close affair.

I wouldnt say we were smashed for any chunk of it, we just didn't take our chances when going forward and we actually smashed Hawthorn for the whole third quarter. As for restricting teams to low scores we have given away the second least points this year behind West Coast who have played 3 bottom 6 sides.

If they are out wouldnt it be like for like. Dawson for Ibbo,Sylvia and Pearce for Mayne and Walters with Clark replacing Hannath.
That would leave Crosier,Sheridan and Neale lucky to be there but still in the 22 with one of them the sub.

FREMANTLE

B Zac Dawson, Luke McPharlin, Lee Spurr
HB Danyle Pearce, Michael Johnson, Paul Duffield
C Cameron Sutcliffe, Ryan Crowley, David Mundy
HF Hayden Ballantyne, Zac Clarke, Nick Suban
F Hayden Crozier , Matthew Pavlich, Colin Sylvia
FOLL Aaron Sandilands, Tendai Mzungu, Stephen Hill
I/C Lachie Neale, Clancee Pearce, Matt de Boer,Tommy Sheridan

IN Zac Dawson, Zac Clarke, Colin Sylvia, Clancee Pearce
OUT Jack Hannath, Chris Mayne, Michael Walters, Garrick Ibbotson

3 enforced changes, and Zac Clarke offers more than Hannath.

We are lacking A graders so we need some players to stand up. Hopefully the threat of Mayne, Walters, Fyfe and co. coming back should be enough to put a rocket up a few players arse's.

Two weeks ago we had close to our strongest team....now mayne, ibbo, walters, fyfe and barlow are all out. Even with a full team it would have been a hard game because Essendon play well at subi for some reason.... I really hope it will be a close at least, last week reminded me of the Dockers of old. Win or lose we have to respond well I reckon. Dunno why freo are favourites with the bookies. Heres hoping to a good game with NO INJURIES (what is this 2010?!?)

Close, which they are. There is a lot of doomsayers on this thread expecting a loss.

Fair points.

No offence Sam, but we're undefeated against your coach since 2009 and have beaten you over there 2 years in a row, last year where you were only missing Sandilands and McPharlin

No offense taken :)

We weren't "missing" McPharlin - he was taken out in the first half of the first quarter. Missing implies we could have replaced him with another player. Instead we needed to sub very very early in the match. Clearly ran out of puff in the second half, particularly defensively, with the loss of McPharlin telling. Oh, and Ryder kicked the winning goal, before getting a due holiday.

If we put on the frenetic pressure we became famous for late last year we can challenge any team with whoever we put on the park. IFFFF and a big if, everyone buys in.

I feel the pressure has backed off this year as RTB wants us to be more attacking. I really hope we revert back this week.

I think Sylvia is one of those players that will stand up once back at AFL level. Too much experience not to

I am struggling to think how we overcome the loss of Barlow and Fyfe. Essendon have a monster midfield, probably the worst side to come up against with our own big midfielders missing. Clancee and Sylvia can provide strength, but it just isn't the same. Hocking will have a decent chance of locking Mundy down, and I fear our midfield will be comprehensively beaten.

Mundy, Pav, Sandi, Hill need to play to their normal high standard. C Pearce, Sutcliffe, Sheridan, Crozier, Mzungu all need to improve a lot from last week, especially if they want to hold their spot next week.

Being reported in the media now.

We won't really know until its released by the club. By what RTB was saying mayne 'may' overcome his injury, however i def expect walters and ibbo to be out, probably for weeks.

I just desperately want our midfielders back. We can cover nearly any other position!

I can't stand posters who put up the team with players out of position and expect us to just agree with them.

You do realise coulda that I just posted someone else's team and was purely talking about the possibility of a tall forward line.

I never said that's where they will play
