Am looking forward to being at this game, was at the game 2 years ago when we lost. Really should win. Only by playing inept do we lose. Bombers are good down back, but it just a case of not blazing away. I watched their game against the Hawks and the number of times they pumped the ball high into the 50 on someones head made it easy for them.

i.e: Keeping playing and building on our past performances as we have so far we win.

Your preview thread is great and you add value to the conversation. Hang about :)
Don't say I didn't warn you :p.
"Skipper Matthew Pavlich and forward Michael Walters both trained unhindered on Wednesday, in a good sign they’ll be available for selection.

The pair, who are recovering from concussions, will still need to pass a test to be available for selection for Saturday night’s game against Essendon at Domain Stadium."

Positive news from the Freo training reports.
Hm, that's good news for you guys. From an Essendon perspective, having both of them out would definitely help, but I think it'll be good to test our small defender's form. What do you guys think the match-ups at our forward end would be if we went in with a forward line like:

Ambrose (192/90) - Langford (190/80) - Zaharakis (basically a resting mid)
Howlett (180/80) - Daniher (201/97) - Carlisle (201/100)

I'd assume Daniher and Carlisle would get Johnson and McPharlin, but unsure on the rest. FWIW if Pav and Walters play we'll probably match-up like:

Ballantyne - Baguley
Mayne - Hibberd
Walters - Dempsey
Pavlich - Hurley
Clarke/Sandi - Fletcher
Taberner - Hooker

If Sutcliffe plays on Langford, which he tends to do for the sub key position types, then expect a goal or two from him as well.
From Sutcliffe or Langford?

Sutty, he a midfielder hiding in the backline. A very rangy guy unless his forward keeps him in check/chases him up the ground. Supremely disciplined.

If he is disciplined he better not float away from Langford too often. Although he is as green as they come, he got away from his St.Kilda opponent many times for some free marks inside 50.

Fair enough. Langford, as said by DapperJong, knows how to lose his man though.

If Pav is out is it possible to bring in Hannath? Hannath/ Sandi as ruck with Clarke rotating through. just need a presence of height to allow Mayne and Tabs to get given the second and third defenders. Tabs alone against Hooker/Hurley would get smashed.

Who the hell is Langford?
Our first pick from last year, made his debut on the weekend. Skinny as hell but actually does something our forwards by and large don't do, present to the ball carrier. So as such we have some hope for him, but it's early stages yet.

I thought he was going to end up a tall winger eventually, your thoughts?
Maybe, but Lloyd sees him as a Jack Gunston type forward and from the 3 actual matches I've seen him in (2 in the VFL, 1 in AFL) I'm inclined to agree. We also have Jackson Merrett, David Zaharakis and Jayden Laverde who will all probably be that sort of player as well.

I think I was thinking Laverde! :)

The skinny guy who got caught up in the moment a bit and fluffed some kicks at goal.

oh yeah, i remember watching his draft highlights.

Not much separates Half Forwards and Wingers these days, they seem to all capable at both positions and float between.

He could be anything. Unsure how he lasted to our first pick, let alone our 2nd. He's tall, powerful and has great skills on both feet.

Yeah, I can see that. Langford probably won't do much if he plays but watch out for him in 2 or 3 years.

Carlisle - McPharlin
Daniher - Johnson
Ambrose - Ibbotson
Langford - Sutcliffe
Howlett - Spurr
Zakkarakis -Duffield

I think you have the match-ups right up the other end. And I think that means you'll have our forwards pretty well covered. The interesting thing at Freo this year is that our mids are kicking goals which has not happened in years past. Fyfe, Hill, Neale and D pearce each have 6 goals so far. Your mids will be as important to your defence as your defenders.

Okay. Our pressure has been really good all year, but none of the other sides have the goalkicking power of Fyfe, Neale and Hill (except maybe Hawthorn).

Incredible preview Arc! God how I miss these.

Wish I could've met you Seppo if not for a rele's b'day... will you be around for any more Home games this year?

I'll in WA for this game, first game I'll see Freo play at Subi since 2011.

Anyone keen to join me for drinks pre game at the Fire n Ice bar?

Love to - how early? I'm hanging with a group of accountants for the game (they have the seats next to mine).

I may be shot down in flames here but I will give it a go.

I really hope that we don't repeat how our friends up the road behaved last time Essendon was in town.

I actually cringed last year when players like Watson were booed, sure what there club did was despicable but I don't think you can place too much blame with the players.

Sure if Goddard or any other bummer starts carrying on like a pork chop or some thug takes out one of our players, though Ryder now wears teal, I will be unleashing both boo barrels. Just like I will be delivering plenty of funny and witty (in my own mind) comments in reference to the drug saga I'm sure.

I just feel there is no need to roundly boo players who don't deserve it. I prefer to save them for people who deserve it like booomer harvey the dobbing dog or when medals are incorrectly awarded.

The other thing is that it seems to fire them up and the last thing we need is to give them any further motivation.

Anyway just my view.
