Post subject: Schwab and Neale Daniher
Cameron Schwab that is.

He was sitting behind me at the game on Sat afternoon. Keeping one eye on the match and the other on his adventurous and energetic young son Lachlan. I know Lachlan's name as Cameron was constantly calling it, usually paired with either STOP or NO. Like everyone else in the stand, Neale Daniher became aware of the Schwab presence and swaggered on over, as only a Daniher can, and joined his old colleague for the final qtr.

Rising to the challenge, my ears grew. My interest was on a couple of levels. Schwab's controversial and never really fully explained departure from MFC was one. This still remains unexplained. They actually seemed unsure of where they stood with each other and the conversation never flowed naturally and certainly wasn't going anywhere near anything juicy. Basically, Daniher (ex-Freo) was asking the current Freo CEO, how is Macca and how is Jonesy whilst Schwab was trying to pump up his new side.

Of interest though was finding out that Hazelby is one bad twist away from a potentially bad knee injury, McPharlin will be back soon and that Daniher was unimpressed with the Demons efforts on the weekend. Structurally poor with bad disposal was the theme of the MFC game. Maybe the Melbourne Hawks did eventuate? Seems to me that's our game at the moment as well.

Of particular interest were Daniher's comments on Loats. He seemed impressed and wondered why he hadnt been given more game time to further develop his game. He also thought the Lonie / Pavlich matchup quite uneven and said he would clear the Freo forward line out, kick it long and high to Pavlich and tell everyone to stay miles away!!

Everytime Hodge got the ball in the last qtr, Daniher simply said "Hodgey". It was said with expectation.

Daniher said G'day to me as he was leaving, so I said "not much to worry about from the Hawks after todays performance". With tongue firmly in cheek he replied "you'll kill us". I like him.

BTW, IMO, Ville was absolutely spot on (again) in another thread about the Hawks game on sat. Seems nothing has changed.

Someone on hawkheadquarters.com said Cameron Schwab was sitting behind him yesterday and he mentioned to Neale Daniher that Paul Haselby is one twist away from a serious knee injury!

Huh?? Please elaborate.... He has no knee problems that I am aware of.

Being a moderator of HH would you tell us how much credibility PlayOn has and what his/her other posts are usually like??

Another one I'm very impressed by is Daniel Haines. I'm kicking myself I didn't take him with a late pick in my fantasy footy draft. He hasn't been mentioned once in the Melbourne media, but he looks to go alright.

Haines is indeed a very impressive player. He is well-balanced, has great skills, poise and plenty of courage. Look for him to further his improvement this year.

It does sound like a pretty credible post. Wonder what Schwab meant by that? It's definitely got me a bit worried.

I read the comment , I all I will say is that every player is one good twist from serious injury !!!
Another thing is if his knee is so shot why has he played evry quarter of every pre season game & that was after a full preseason !!

I'd say he was just pointing out that it doesn't take much for a player to go down with a serious knee injury nowadays. Hell, it happened to Waterhouse & Webster last year and Longmuir this year. That's three players going down with a knee injury due to a simple "twist" or "turn" in just two years. Perhaps the guy misheard Schwab when he thought he said "Hasleby" or perhaps Schwab was just using Hase as an example. He has no current knee problems and has never had throughout his career, so I would think he'd be pretty safe.

I don't know what Schwab meant by the comment, I wasn't there.

I certainly dont think PlayOn made it up - why would he? Fremantle supporters don't usually read our site, and it has no baring on the Hawks.

Schwab and Daniher would know each other from Melbourne, but why Schwab would say something like that I have no idea. Given he is CEO I'm surprised he would even have access to such information unless it was widely known throughout the club.

I tend to think he was just using Haselby as an example, as I wasn't there it's impossible to know.

Looked fine on Saturday - the only injury he may have picked up was leather posioning! :(

I think your right GH, along the lines of
ND: geez that haselby kid is allright, could take you to the finals
CS: Haselby is only one twist from a serious knee injury (as are all players) Not counting our chickens before they hatch
