Zac Clarke was disgraceful. Shows no urgency or attack on the contest and copped a mouthful on numerous occasions from Walters, Pearce and De boer.

Always take a win in a final no matter how it looks. Got 2 weeks to sharpen the boys up and be ready to go against Hawthorn.

Umpires had nothing to do with the low standard that we played at today.

Agree, besides that mark that was paid to Sandi (which could well have changed the last 15 minutes dramatically it should be said), I don't remember any massive shockers. It was very intense footy from TV viewing angle and that made it sloppy all round I thought.

Extremely unconvincing. You've given every hawk fan a reason to feel very optimistic.

Genuine question though - did the week of help? - sydney looked a lot sharper with 4 of their best 5 players out. The resting of players seems suspect. Richmond v North will be interesting

oh really? you looked really sharp too. no one has rated Freo all year and you just joined a long congo line because you are anxious. we won our final with no home bias from the umps and we were efficient up front and more efficient than your own side. also the eagles had two of their starting mids out, but you should know that you dont underestimate your opposition. we know hawthorn have the most talent so i am going to have a great laugh at making a prelim despite having top 6-8 talent and being out of form. is hilarious and your anxiety adds to the humour. no one rates us so we are underdogs. we have rested players 3 times and won 3 times in finals including your mob in an elimination final. it has worked but we dont have the talent of other teams, just superior coaching/management

Congrats on the win and the week off. Doesn't matter how you get the result, you have a home prelim and are 4 quarters away from a GF.

Disappointed with our execution, can't fault the effort of either side though.

Good luck in a few weeks against Hawthorn (possibly Footscray).

In case you didn't notice, Dawson was destroyed. I would much rather we played somebody with a brain.

Disagree on Mzungu as well. He definitely wasn't one of the worst.

Dawson was not destroyed. Tippett got 2 of his goals when Dawson was off the ground. He also only had shots from fairly difficult spots. He was held fairly well considering the form he was showing. Dawson lost him for one of his goals.

There were much, much worse players than Dawson out there, so try a new whipping boy for once.

Also Alex Pearce is a small frame and no match for Tippett and he would have only matched up on him as a 3rd man up.

We don't play pretty - that's just the way it is. We still get the results. I was so excited when Ballaz got his first goal.

Both teams struggled with the wind.

It was hard and pressured and we won. We were missing McPharlin big time in the back line. Wish we had Griffin and not Clarke.

and the highlight of my day was meeting Duffman before the game :)

Guess you had to be there then - it was shameful. Everything possible given to them; nothing at all for us. And really, really bad in Q4.

1st quarter was good.
2nd was ok
3rd was terrible
4th was disgraceful

We were lucky to win. Sydney kicked themselves out of that, they lost we didn't win.

We slipped over way too much.

Our tackling was insipid.

The dumbarses got shown up for their dumbness.

A positive was Balla's game - liked it. And apart from 3 shocking disposal clangers, I liked Sherro's game.

We have to fix up our long kicking to a pack out of defence. Sydney killed us at almost every one by either marking uncontested (how does that happen?), taking a contested mark, or crumbing off the pack (mostly at the back of the pack on their own - again, how does that happen?).

Macca must come in, our defence was crap today.

Practice tackling this week sometime would be nice.

Helped some, others not so. Fyfe took a bit to get going then struggled to run out the game late - but he's unique because of injury issues. Pav looked a million bucks off the rest. In truth he could play every second week and it would be just right for him. Mayne and Walters were carrying a niggles and looked great with the week off. Dawson and MJ both looked off the pace, but both are coming off injuries so didn't have a choice. You could go down the list, it was a bit up and down.

The team overall looked good for the most part, but when it felt like they we had the game under control in the last 1/4, the structures and systems seemed to fall apart a bit and it was sheer work-rate and desperation that gave us the win from there. That was probably more mental and not much to do with the resting of players I reckon.

Dawson was awful. I'd back PearceA's superior decision making in any day.

.
The team don't kick to Dawson when he is 30m in clear space in the corridor. Says enough about his "role".

Yeah, he is kind of attractive, I can see why you have a crush on him FG.

Disagree with that, well sort of. The first half of that last quarter we were playing extremely well. Didn't take as much opportunity as you'd like, but we were still on top. It was only the last 15 minutes or so where we were a bit of a mess but gutsed our way through it.

We got through and that is what the QF is about. I thought MDB was terrific whereas Suban did a disappearing act and Mzungu was well Mzungu. Suban and Mzungu are in the gun as far as a possible return for Crowley. I'm laying bets that Lyon backs Crowley in.

Totally agree and it happens because we send too many up for the mark whilst opposition have 1.

We are in the prelim.
What I find funny is that Hawks get beaten fairly convincingly by Port and the Eagles in a few weeks, and they are still traveling great.
WCE get smashed by Adelaide - no problem their form is still unquestionable.
Adelaide lose a critical game.
WCE beat Freo by 24 points when they kicked 7 goals to 1 in the opening quarter. Not a convincing second half by them. 9.8 to 7.7

So look it is difficult to get a proper perspective as all the teams match up differently.

Dockers beat Sydney in a final, yes undermanned, but difficult conditions. Sydney are off 4 huge wins in a row, and still have Kennedy, Hannerbury and Mitchell all in career best form in the past 4 weeks. So they are no easy beats.

Yes, there was some disappointing elements. It would have been great to get to 80 points, which was the requirement I thought we needed to secure the win. But we won, no injuries. Luke comes back in, a week to train hard then prepare for a prelim, in which the other teams will be coming a hard fought final.

We are one step closer to another GF appearance. I am happy about that.
