I'm actually hoping that Buddy plays next week. There does seem to be some internal tension going on at Sydney and I can't help feeling that it involves Buddy a fair bit. They just might settle down and play good football if he's not there.

Their midfield looks average against a ruckman of any note, they over rated Pyke.

Mumford is a beast, they were a better team with him.

I'm treating this as a bigger danger game than the Essendon one.

A lot of teams who are underwhelming so far, you can pinpoint what their problem is (from a footballing perspective).

Sydney... they could dish up anything on the day.

This week I learned something.

Sydney in 2012 is acknowledge to have one of the strongest depth in the afl at that time. Since winning the flag, they've made crazy trades for Tippett and Franklin, probably causing a number of their depth players to be unhappy and leave.

Sydney fans argued that it's worthwhile to trade depth for a better best 22, since their depth didn't help them when they got clobbered by us last year. I'll argue that their depth players brought them that far, but hey whatever, it's their problem.

Last week, with many of our important players out, we got severely beaten by a red hot Hawthorne. Many here have doubt on our team's ability when our best players are unavailable.

Back on topic.

This week, with Fyfe, Barlow, Mayne, Walters and even Mundy out, things looked really bleak. We are talking about a firing Essendon. I'll feel good if we even get close, but to beat them resoundingly is way over the top.

So, having a strong depth may not sufficient to beat the best team out there, but they'll give you a fighting chance to win week by week so that we can still reach the finals and hopefully buy time for your best players to come back.

So come Sydney next, weakened without their best players (Tippett, Goodes...). Hopefully, we can keep up for intensity and beat the swans at home. Thanks swans for killing you depth.

It mainly a luck thing. When 20 of your best 22 stay on the park depth is worse nothing. When that number ist reduced to 15 it's starting to get very important...
