Fyfe was great too in the final quarter. Was almost getting emotional watching him out there making a significant contribution to the win

Not sure the selections were great, but it's a win so all the pieces add up to it. Maybe Darcy did enough to limit Witts and give Jackson a chop out, and maybe Draper did enough to let Ryan and Cox dominate their forwards..

Did I hear Lynch at the end of the game saying Gold Coast got back into it in the second quarter with a 9-1 free kick differential?

Felt about right.

Wagner was very good to my eye. His pace and impact at the man in a contest really broke open some loose ball for us, brought fumbles from GC.

Johnson with a tackle we absolutely needed.

Bolton with a strong defensive work rate wins us the game.

Murphy Reid showed his class with clean hands in the wet.

Looked absolutely miserable out there. I liked Jackson as a mid in the first half. We will get more of that when Darcy can actually move.

Lynch referred to the turn around half way through the third quarter with a 9-1 clearance differential is how I heard it.(edit -might have been second quarter)

Ryan did well - Felt he was unlucky at some points of the game but the effort was there.

I liked the fact that even Treacy didn't have a huge impact on the score board - he never dropped his head.

Reid just knows how to play the game - doesn't over exerts himself and knows the situation. Multiple times he knew if he picked up the ball he'd get pinged. Just tapped it and controlled it so that he couldn't get tackled and the game/clock didn't stop.

The Vics on our side were great in the wet - Vossy taking marks and kicking truly.

Man, I've just been burnt too many times but the footy the guys playing since the St Kilda game is top shelf. So many players are finally playing close to their best footy consistently. It's a joy to watch

Great win by Freo, perhap even season defining.

Switta played some of his best footy in the first quarter, Wagner very good early too. Voss showed how disciplined he has become with his toned down celebrations following his first goal.

Our second quarter was a bit disappointing with only one goal

The third quarter turned into a real wet weather slog and Freo showed plenty of fight to stay in the game.

We saved our best for the final quarter and in particular the final five minutes with Bolton's tackle that led to Amiss's goal the highlight.

Voss and Bolton's three goals each were invaluable. Serong, Brayshaw, Clark, Warner and Jackson all very good.

I was very pleased to see JLo get in amongst his players when he got onto the ground after the siren. Great show of emotion from him without going over the top.

Best "close" win in a while, even better than Sydney away last year imo. We didn't have to rely on a bad kick after the siren this time.

Pos: The son of a gun Bolton going to the middle once the rain started pouring changed the game.
Johnson had one of his best games, ironically because he was under immediate pressure a lot and didn't have time to overthink things.
Brayshaw just inspirational when a lot of players were losing their heads.

Neg: Frederick can't crumb, can't get a joe the goose goal with his pace, can't apply pressure. Compare with Bruce who half a dozen times crumbs and corrals the ball in heavy traffic. Dunno what he's there for.

The nepos having a word with the AFL clearly helped their free kick count.

Frederick to Peel, getting away with contributing nothing most weeks. Switta had a great game, many good players for us today. We must make Jacko stick to his contract, not negotiable.

Undoubtably our best win in a long time, we just kept going and going despite them fighting their way in front and getting shafted by the umps in the second half.

Maximum heart and effort, some unbelievable performances from some of our guys, and to wrestle a close win means a lot. Very happy today
