I realise he plays much better on grass, but on this performance, he won't be doing much there. Hope he can turn it around, because this has been awful

I agree, its quite frustrating, he beat this bloke a couple of weeks ago, so I don't see what the reason was for the performance. This passive attitude has its positivies, but I think at times he goes too far the other way, and its not as though this attitude has done him any good this year. Yeah, clay isn't his best surface but his American hardcourt swing was not much better either. I guess whilst he's young we'll cut him some slack.

Oh well I guess we'll see what Jarka can do now...

Like everybody who watches a Tomic match, I pull my hair out just working out why he does some of the things on the court, so many first and second ball errors, not being aggressive when really that is the only way he will win matches on clay, just meh...

Yeah, on to the grass season now, Halle and Eastbourne for him.

Re. his passive attitude. Sometimes I think it can actually have a negative effect, especially is he's bottling his frustration. It's OK to let it out Bernie!

He's always been like this, which is why many have questioned whether he's actually trying sometimes. He got in trouble from Tennis Australia a bit for not trying on purpose. He's not exactly the most expressive character, he's basically on the other end of the spectrum to Lleyton Hewitt. He'll do a lot better on grass, if he gets a decent draw at Winbledon he'll do some damage. Heck, I'm confident he can take it up to the guys in the top 10 on grass. He'll need to do well at Winbledon though as he's got some points to defend. At least he'll be seeded; so he should, fingers crossed, get to the 3rd round at least.

I hate to say it, but Jarka plays tennis like a goon these days :(. Someone clone Dave Taylor for her, she's only done well at Fed Cup of late, which is the reason why I really think her coach has NFI. If she employed some actual tactics she'd blow Woz off the court. Hopefully she does better in the second set, I've turned the stream off.

Wozniaki has the draw opening up nicely for her in my view. One of the quiet achievers and is solid enough to get to a final. Tomic was deplorable...that said...he gains points despite his loss and he will get a discretionary seeding at Wimbledon, so a seed of around 20 going into Wimbledon is good.

If Tomic had Hewitt's attitude and fighting spirit he would've been a top 10 player right now.

Building upon this...

Unless its the Australian Open or Wimbledon he plays like he doesn't give a shit. He doesn't chase anywhere near enough and he tanks too many points.

He may be young but his attitude stinks and it needs to change if he wants to get anywhere. He needs to get rid of his father as coach and get someone that will instill discipline and a "give 100% every point" mentality.

I also question whether or not Tomic has what it takes to become a top player that has been expected since his junior days. In my opinion his game has several weaknesses including the serve, forehand, and movement, all of which will not get any better until he decides to hire up a real tennis coach.

Then as mentioned, there is the problem of the on-court attitude, lack of fight and poor mentality. I believe Bernard has already lost 3 matches this season after holding matchpoints and lately has been terrible at converting breakpoints.

Another thing I think is a problem is the lack of off-court discipline and control from those around him. He seems more interested in fast cars, girls, and the party lifestyle.

I think he is a bit over-ranked at the moment as the Wimbledon points are still counting. After a good start to the year in Brisbane and Melbourne, Tomic has only made 2 quarterfinals in 11 tournaments. It seems from his post-match interview that he is banking on another solid showing on the grass, but I don't see him doing much with the way he is playing. Perhaps an early exit in the upcoming tourneys will serve as a wake-up call.

The way he goes about things is just screaming Philipousis mk II. I think TA will be slightly concerned. Maybe its just me, but at times its like he's pushing the ball around Caro Woz style a bit, not that his sole purpose should be to belt the cover off the ball at every shot, but geez....

Also watching him play makes me admire Lleyton Hewitt even more. Speaking of which, Lleyton was hitting with Barty the other day so it looks like he may still be involved with TA once he retires which would be a good thing.

Anyway as usual Sam is the only one left, she is up second on court 1 tonight.

Lets be honest here, Tomic still has a major flaw and it is probably similar to a lot of quality players. However, his movement is still not at the peak. This will come more over the next 2 years, people forget that he is not 20 yet. Clay is the worst suface for him as his movement is shown up, it is unfortunate but it is the way it is. He won't do much for 2-3 years at the French. That said his movement and his game are not as much of an issue at the other slams so he will be well placed to do well there.

Was about to say Kuznetsova is really flying under the radar on the womens side.. she just wiped the floor with Radwanska who I don't rate at all but still.. Id almost have my money on her only thing that stops me is how she holds up mentally under pressure.

Ivanovic gone again, no surprises shes not going to get near a slam again unfortunately.

Sam not too far away with berdych playing in the 5th set. I think she will get past petrova might be a tough one though, both players are capable of anything on their day.

her opponent in the next round should she make it is playing some seriously good tennis in sloane stevens, could be the next big thing coming out of america for the girls imo, certainly not an easy match as she hits the ball hard and flat, errani for me is the smoky, her game is perfectly suited for clay with her movement and top spin groundstrokes a big strength. Has become a pretty good player the past few months.

Errani has never won against a top 10 player, I don't think. Can't see her making it much further than where she's at now.

That was US Open-esque form from Sam today, just played an excellent match. Excited to see her play like that. Keep it going.

Well, not really because this one was won actually quite easily ;) Yeah, I know what you mean.

Top match from Sam, really one of the best of this season, striking the ball very cleanly, hoping now that Stephens will be a bit overwhelmed in the 4th round but she has game so it will always be tough.

Great win by Sam, thought it would be a bit closer but she looks on this tournament.

Stephens one of the up and comers in women's tennis but still pretty raw and inexperienced. Could be interesting but expect Sam to get it done in straight sets.

Hmm, we all know what can transpire when Sam is expected to beat someone, i.e. I find it best to always expect a tough match :p. That was a nice win, but it seemed Petrova was in the shits for some reason. I was expecting to be sterssed out of my wits, I still remember following their USO match on the scoreboard and literally getting a head ache.

Anyway there seem to be some really interesting men's matches on right now, unfortunately I have to work tomorrow so bed time for me argh. French blokes have done well so far too.

Gilles Simon..pathetic, that is the only way to describe that, although Wawrinka is no mug

I watched the first two sets.

Gilles should have won the first, Wawa the second.

Match was always on Wawa's racquet. Made too many UE's early in the first set and couldn't put two good points together when he needed to. There was a massive long Simon service game that went Wawa winner, Wawa UE, Deuce, repeat.
