Can't believe these figures, published today. Actually I can, but they're still damned impressive.

that seems hard to believe, especially against WCE

The straight 40,000 figure for the eagles sounds like a random guesstimate they just threw up on their website.

Clubs with captive memberships like them aren't as diligent at keeping their figures updated because they aren't locked in a dick measuring contest like all the Vic clubs.

From memory we've been a little lax in the past too (I remember seeing threads like this on the main board where the OP couldn't even find the figure for either WA team), maybe we're making more of an effort this year because we're trying to brag about our impending development into a superpower.

Do we sell the 3 game memberships? I couldn't see them on our website. A mate got a family Hawthorn one ( 2 adults. 3 children) so there's 5 new Hawthorn members.

This is the first year we have Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane membership so I have signed up for the first time.

I am not sure about the other non Vic and non WA members, but I would imagine about 2,000 people would have signed up.

I doubt we'll be selling them this year, and I don't think they were even classified as memberships. I think they were simply a 3 game ticket.

The numbers aren't that surprising, members had to renew before the end of November (?) to keep their seat, and i'd expect 95% of them did. We've never been particularly interested in getting into the dick measuring competition they have in Melbourne to see who can sell the most bullshit trinket memberships.

I'm thinking Dockers members have probably just been more enthusiastic and got in early, and the others will all catch up just prior to the start of the season.

So Collingwood has bigger/more dicks than the rest of the vic clubs....sounds about right I suppose.

The other cause for concern is the pathetic numbers for Melbourne based clubs eg: North, Saints, Bulldogs and Melbourne.

From our perspective we are now and will probably remain the biggest club in W.A.

Not sure about that Fred. Don't the Eagles have a waiting list for membership? This may well be the year that we draw level with them, but I don't think we'll start the year with more members.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the new stadium is completed. How many Eagles supporters will be finally able to buy the memberships they've been waiting for years to get. Though there'll probably be a few eagles members who will give up their memberships knowing that they'll be able to buy one later on (which isn't the case now because of the current waiting list). From a Freo perspective, more people will be able to buy tickets with a decent view of the ground and hopefully much better seating and facilities. (Personally, I will try to buy an extra one so I can bring my kids.) So our numbers would have to jump, but surely not as much as West Coast.

From the time membership numbers dropped, the club has kept the figures like a closely guarded secret. Only this year when they finally recovered to pre image makeover numbers did they come out and publicly release them.

North Melbourne offer 1-game memberships. Me and a few mates bought one last year because their queue was way shorter than the Etihad stadium ticketing queue. Cost $2 more than at the gate, but you got a nice North hat and lanyard...

Anyway, I get back to Perth and a week later another hat and lanyard arrive in the mail. And now this season I'm get a text from NthMelbFC imploring me to renew so "we can rise together". I hastily replied STOP to opt out...

Sounds a bit yeasty to me

Membership revenue is a better measurement.

Non-membership revenue is the best measurement, though.

The trick is to sign up as few members as possible, then charge the fans you have successfully not signed up an admission fee to watch pre-season training.

Geelong will charge fans to watch the Cats train at Simonds Stadium
GEELONG will charge non-members an admission fee to watch the Cats train at two "members" sessions at Simonds Stadium during the school holidays.

It will be the first time a club has asked fans to pay to watch players train.

Which is worse, Geelong charging their supporters to watch them train, or Carlton charging their supporters to watch them play?
