Sumich doesn't work for Fremantle any more, so he can say what he likes. Employees of the Fremantle Football Club say they like the head coach, big surprise there.
St Kilda senior players like Dal Santo, Reiwoldt, Goddard et al still say they love Ross, nothing in it for them.

That’s what I heard one of the wiggles players say that Simpson coaches a game plan based on what each players strengths are which is common sense really. That second half when Wilson tucked the ball under his arm and took on the defenders almost screamed of frustration as he hasn’t been doing much of that but it is a massive weapon. Bet my balls that isn’t in the “plan”
They do come from the sam
So do past players at Sydney, St Kilda (minus Leigh Fisher) and Fremantle. Roos commented on the weekend about Longmire and Lyon (as he would) that they come from the same mould, same philosophy for the game.

Phone just went stupid they do come from the same mould and the game plan is similar but Sydney have much more experience and a better list than we do do trying to execute his game plan with such a young inexperienced list just doesn’t work

Yeah its not the plan when we recruited him to do exactly that. Think we got him to play lock down defender?

It's called education. You think the rookies at Sydney rock in all ready to roll? Sydney have been better at keeping older heads on the park in crucial positions and that's the difference on top of them being one of the best sides are unearthing deep talent.

And it went down like a lead baloon?

I’ve always thought that he went too far the other way and set it up to fail to make a point.

That is what happened as well as apparently attempting to complete our fitness work within ball work drills.
Seem to remember training watchers saying we did far less running and we definitely lacked run on game day.
Guerra and Hale would have been quite inexperienced in 2016.
Lyon and the club have acknowledged it was a failed experiment and I think one of those extended Duffield preseason interviews quotes Lyon saying the player group came to him and requested he revert back to the previous regime.
That was also when they were talking about key messages getting lost because of some problem with the way they were delivered.
I don't believe we've heard anything from the big rower but this is his area.

Will be very costly to sack Ross now, two years left at $1M+ per season plus the salary of a new head coach ($650K +). I'd let Ross see out his contract and give him a fair go at a rebuild.

Rodney Eade was saying in one of his podcasts that coaches these days have riders on their contracts that can allow the club to fire them without seeing out the rest of the contract. I’d imagine it’d be silly not to have some KPIs that you must achieve throughout your rebuild.

Losing 2K members would cost the club about $1M per season. Ultimately the money men will do the sums on the decision whether Ross stays or goes.

So I was going through some old games tonight to free up some space on my set top box, which is nearly full of Freo games and I came across a regular season game from 2015 between Freo and the Swans at home. Out of interest I let this one run for two quarters. At half time we led the Swans 57 to 9. I’m sure they probably came back at some stage for us to win out eventually, but what I noticed was the clear depth of talent across our lines. We had blokes - grown men - dominating in every position. McPharlin towelling Buddy, Spurr controlling half back and Mundy owning the guts. And man our pressure was constant and suffocating.

Interestingly the commentators mentioned that we didn’t have one player on under 50 games.

Three years and a million list changes later we are on the other end of that result.

Really gave me some perspective on how much better things can be. Just need the right cattle and a bit more experience.

I remember that game. Pretty sure Sydney stormed back and if it wasn’t for a last saving spoil from Ibbo that ultimately resulted in a Maybe (I think) goal we could have lost.

Using memberships to make decisions on who is coach is a surefire way to send us backwards

Possibly as surefire as saying we selected our round one team to help out the marketing department

Agreed. But technically playing the best team we have available helps out the marketing department. That's hardly newsworthy

We need to wait until we get our full team back. If we are still getting belted consistently then we might need a review of the coaching department.

I think we need to take risks at selecting home grown talent
We have let a lot of key position players from WA slip which we could of drafted
Both McGoverns Lobb Darling Hamlin who we got back I’m sure I’ve missed a few
Apart from Pavlich not one non WA key position player has been any good for us
If you look at the Eagles all their key Position player are all from WA Darling Kennedy McGovern Barras Waterman etc

Probably not much chance of it happening but i would love to bring Justin Longmuir back to the club under Lyon. He has future head coach potential and would be great to already have at the club if things with Lyon didn't work out over the next couple of years. I'm sure at some stage Longmuir would be interested in returning back to WA.

Certainly a fan favourite who's getting some good press.
Always wished we'd kept hold of him myself.
Would be a quality addition I reckon.

Lobb doesn't deserve to be in that list.

He is an ordinary ruckman and as a forward he only manages to kick 1 goal per game behind Cameron and Patton. Massively overrated on here just because he can clunk a mark. Doesn't do a lot else well IMO.

Longmuir is going places - very positive reports from everyone involved with coaching. No chance to come back under Lyon but would be a chance to replace him at some stage. He only just relocated his young family to Melbourne.

Reckon he will serve at least 2-years at the Pies. If things keep stagnating at Freo for the remainder of this year with little improvement in 2019 then he should be at top of our list for 2020.

I listened to about 5 mins of Fanta-pants and Tossdorn in the car this morning before I had to pull over and vomit. A dickhead caller rang in and said we need to sack Lyon ASAP and offer squillions of dollars and land in Mosman Park to bring Clarkson over and go all Victorian. Then to double this pain Tossdorn cut him off and said nope Freo must apppoint a Fremantle person, saying Lyon is done with all theseoff-field issues going on and Sumich is to be the night in shining armour. With Fanta-pants milking him for every word of toss.

Their obsession that all things are falling apart at Freo is simply pathetic. Stick to the ABC no one needs to hear that crap repeated each week.

I hear ya. The only reason it was on because I turned over from ABC the night before, when in the car. Not a big fan of the ABC fri night commentary team. David Parkin is horrible.

its like listening to an angry old man who never has anything good to say about anything.
Oh wait, thats what he actually is.
